Missouri has offered more tight ends than wideouts thus far in the 2016 recruiting cycle. That's what happens when you have nine to 10 recent signees at the WR position already.

Good read:

Scratched my head over more than a few of those commits last couple years.

Think we're suffering from not many of our WR's or TE's making it in the NFL.

I really liked our WR class last year. Johnson is electric. Smith has a huge ceiling, and Hall reminds me slot of Sasser.

I think we did quite well.

Even though I like the open field vision of Johnson, but keep an eye on Richaud Floyd as well who was totally under-the-radar.

Meanwhile, Raymond Wingo was compared to a more electric version of TJ Moe on the radio this week.

I would love to see Wingo grab the slot job. Never been a fan of having a bigger WR play there (I'm aware Lucas did it and was pretty successful)

Then Moore and Brown or Leftwich on the outside:

Mauk said that he(Wingo) was a faster version of Murphy.

DA had his insane senior year playing mostly in the slot. The slot has typically been the play making position for Mizzou. With Maclin in there as well. Tried DGB, but he either felt uncomfortable or couldn't figure the reads out.

Wingo looked awkward at receiver.

Just my opinion.

Well, he's been playing the position for like two weeks.

I have to disagree though. He looked natural catching the ball and showed really good instincts finding openings on a couple scramble drills. I was quite impressed, actually. Especially considering he's new to the position.

Looked awkward when people made contact with him.

Guy is a legit, NFL type defensive back. Just feel lit's a shame to use him at WR because we're desperate.

I wish we had more faith in freshman -- other schools, even big ones, seem to be okay with putting talent on the field regardless of age.

Well we'll see if Wingo sticks after the freshman receivers actually show up for the first time this fall. It's hard to slot them in on the depth chart before their first practice.

He wasn't going to crack the two deep at CB this year and could possibly start at WR. That's why he was moved. I think he can excel at either spot so I'm fine with it.

I understand that.

I like the guys we have, but I'd bet Wingo is the better DB than the guys taking up the 2 deep, yes, I realize they're really good.

I'd bet that he can excel at the WR spot.

I just don't think it's in his best interest, but who knows. But I'm sure he'd rather play than not play.

This all falls into the same ball of wax -- I wish Mizzou wasn't quite so stuck in their ways of not playing younger, more talented players, in place of adequate upper classman.

I'm a big fan of Dennis and Penton. The argument might be able to be made that Wingo is as good as the other guys behind those 2 but I think it's tough to say he's better than those 2.

Penton played as a true freshman and was a full time starter by his 2nd year. I also think that it's hard to use the past history to predict what GP might do in the future when it comes to this. Mizzou simply hasn't always gotten guys who were physically ready to play their first year. Now, they are getting more and more of those level of athletes, so it will be interesting.

Think it had a lot to do with need. I don't think we had anyone at that time.

We'll play freshman, or young guys when it's absolutely necessary.

But I don't think we bump up younger guys who may have more elasticity, or ceiling when an adequate upperclassmen is in place. Which has its pros and cons.

That's where I'm at.

Stuck in their ways? What are you talking about? The best players play for Pinkel's teams.

DGB did as a true freshman, Penton did, Hansbrough did, Ish Witter did. There have been plenty of others. I'd bet Beckner will see the field this year and possibly a wide receiver or two. It's simply that our development and strength programs are so good that not a lot of freshman can crack the two-deep based on their performance.

I am not too worried about the wideouts honestly. I think Nate Brown is gonna be a stud and we have other solid players.

Well, the coaches seemed to disagree. He's obviously not playing before Dennis or Penton. Gibson is an experienced player with starts under his belt, and one of our better athletes. Cheadle played above Wingo when both were freshman, and then you have the senior Johnson who has experience.

I agree that he could have been a good corner, and that's probably his best spot in the NFL (should he get close to that discussion) but I think he can be a standout at WR and his path to playing time is sooner there.

Yeah, the past speaks for itself in terms of Pinkel playing freshmen. If they can make an impact, they will play. Beckner will be an example of that if he qualifies, and the D-line isn't exactly hurting for talent right now. I think the staff sees Wingo as an explosive playmaker with the ball in his hands and that's why they moved him.
