If Mark Fields and others don't want to be here then I don't want them here either. I hope they enjoy another losing streak to us in their orange and purple uniforms.

I mean, do these kids really expect Spurrier to stick around until they graduate? His contract only goes through 2017, not sure why his '2-3 years' comment is making all this news. If they don't want to be Gamecocks then fine, we'll find players that want to give it their all here.

It's easy for us to say being fans of the school, a lot of us raised that way. But most of these kids aren't, especially the out of staters.

They care more about stability and what the current coaching staff promised them as opposed to what other schools are promising them. There is no certainty when a coach leaves, you don't know who will be the next coach, what type of offense / defense you'll run, or even if you'll get to play.

After a year or two here of getting comfortable here with the school and with their new friends etc., sure they'd stick around post-Spurrier.. but knowing he is going to leave before you do creates a lot of uncertainty for some teenage kids, many of whom are coming from miles away.

Tell me.. if you were being recruited by companies 1, 2, and 3. All great choices. All promising you certain things. You think you'll go to job 1 because the boss promises you a promotion in a couple years, a salary, benefits etc. But then also says he'll be gone in the near future. Wouldn't you think again before going there?

We said.

Today's recruiting is a horse of a different color than the one from even 15 years ago.

Kids these days are looking at all sorts of things before they look at any actually loyalty to a program - with the except perhaps of Bama and maybe one or two others, OSU perhaps.

1 - How many players is a program putting in the pros at their position?
2 - How stable is the program, how many games are they winning?
3 - Early playing time.
4 - Education
5 - Coaching Staff - relationships (shown love) - reputations.
6 - Location, conference, TV.

7 - School or program loyalty. And it really only applies to the instate kids who may, or many not, have grown-up in the state.

A couple of cases in point.

(RB) Nick Chubb claimed he grew-up a Gamecock fan and wanted to come here ... but he quickly turned on us when he claimed he was not shown enough love on his visit here.

(LB) Matt "The Red Rage" Rolin was committed to us for over a year. A legacy player who repeated over and over again that he loved us. Yet, the week before signing-day he flips to Florida.

Now, what makes the Rolin story all the more interesting is that he blew his knee-out his senior year, but we stuck with him like white on rice - showed him a lot of love as fans and, as our entire coaching staff did. Yet he flipped on us at the last minute.

Why?

Wanna be even more confused? Read this message he sent to Muschamp, publicly, a couple of weeks ago when it was announced Muschamp was fired ... does it make sense to you?

quote:

“It’s a very sad day for my team and I know most of you people don’t understand why we love Champ so much and I know most of you fans out there are happy that he is fired, but my teammates and I are not. He is like a father to us. He is a great role model and always preached to us that there’s more to life than football. He’s made myself and everyone of my teammates a better man. The amount of passion he has for the game is something I can’t explain. And the way he cares about each of us is also something I can’t explain. If it wasn’t for him I would not be here at The University of Florida and I can promise you that. I would have stayed committed to South Carolina. When I first tore my ACL my senior year of high school Champ was the first coach to reach out to me out of the 45 coaches that offered me the opportunity to play for their schools. That meant the world to me. He called me as soon as he got the news and told me not to worry about anything. He told me that they still wanted me just as bad as before I hurt my knee and had full confidence that I would recover and come back stronger and I have. He is THE reason why I am a gator and I appreciate everything he had done for myself and this program. I know most of you will probably disagree, but Champ is a great coach. By far one of the best in the country. He will be successful wherever he ends up. We love you Champ. Thank you for everything.”

This is something for recruits to keep in mind in case there is a coaching change while they're in school. But you can't blame players for not wanting to go to a school where the head coach is saying there will definitely be a coaching change during you're time here

Kids want to have some sort of stability, and i dont blame them. They also want to play for winners and people who are fully engaged. We are neither. Spurrier is lazy and arrogant and it has filtered down to the full staff. Pathetic and now we are seeing just how little he cares about gamecock nation. This is his little hobby, nothing more.

Spurrier is retiring after next season so all this is going to be a moot point once this next class is fully signed and enrolled.

Spurrier didn't want to lie about his expectations. But the man has done this his whole life and he wants to go-out a winner. We owe him that.

We'll be fine. We'll make it through this and we'll be improved this coming season. Who knows, perhaps the football gods will smile on the HBC and allow us to send him out on a really good note and with a lot of love and fondness in our hearts - and his.

This is not something worth melting-over. Jumping the gun and not showing some reserve and patience is what got us in trouble more than once in the past.

That's retarded.

Honestly, I appreciate his honesty, should we have expected any differently? I mean, if he wouldn't have made that 2-3 year comment it's not like he still wouldn't be leaving in 2-3 years and then that recruiting class is going to go to shite anyways. I'd rather it come sooner than later and know what to expect in a few ye

There's no such thing as stability in coaching. The sooner recruits believe that the better off they will be. Spurrier was just shooting it straight and besides you can't believe anything these recruits say until they actually put on the uni's. Recruiting is all about who's the best liar and that's sad

I agree with all of this. But the reality of the situation is that you must be willing and able to recruit at a high level. Perceived stability factors into that. I hate that college football has turned into a game where complete dumbfricks like butch and dabo field better teams than people w real football knowledge but it is what it is. And if you dont want to enter the slimy world of recruiting it is probably time for a change.

Winning, sustained winning, usually helps to take care of the recruiting.

If we get Fields back in the fold, will that help to ease the pain some?

Getting Fields back would ease a lot of it. Our fans have the tendency to be cliff jumpers and negative nancies unlike any group I have ever seen. When things start to go wrong, it's like some folks love to wallow in negativity of it all. I think Fields was just the last straw for most, and if we get him, plus a surprise or two before NSD, all would be forgiven and excitement restored.

I agree with that when you're trying to build depth with 3 star guys, but the elite recruits aren't going to school for the atmosphere. They want a coach who can win and get them to the NFL.
