He started with 5 to play 4.
Played 1 year at UT leaving 4 to play 3.
At JUCO if he plays, he will have 3 to play 2 left and if he graduates, he can transfer with immediate eligibility so he has 3 to play 2 at his new school.
If he RSs and graduates at JUCO, he will have 3 to play 3 at his new school. He can RS at anytime at any school for one year. The question is whether the JUCO will let him or even if they do, sometimes injuries will force him to play.
This is the way I understand it.

He'd only need one year at JUCO if that's the case, I believe. What's being said on TB, is that he will need to sit out 2yrs to come to Mizzou, because we're both SEC East schools. He'll go to Juco for 2yrs and redshirt, only playing 1 of 2yrs.

None of that applies if you go the JUCO route. IF this happens he'd go one year of JUCO and come back as a RS SO with 3 to play 3.

He doesn't even have to go to a JUCO for football. He just has to graduate, which shouldn't be difficult. Or, he can go somewhere like Hurch or Hinds and they would do it for us because we funnel them players.

IF he wants to come here, he can come back as a 3 for 3 guy the year after next.

I have it on good authority he wants to go to the PAC 12.

Butch makes it official that freshmen Dewayne Hendrix, Darrell Scott and Daniel Helm are going to transfer.

I think we had been looking at Helm too at one time.

Don't know a thing about him, but if he could swing going to JUCO with no scholarship, (no obligation to play) and graduate he would have 3 to play and only miss one year.

I think Helm will end up closer to home or at a smaller school. His issue was that he was very overwhelmed by the various social aspects of college life and really just life outside of the bubble he was raised in. He had a hard time fitting in with regular kids his age. He was home schooled and was apparently so sheltered that even people cussing bothered him (for real).

He also played this year and playing time wasn't an issue for him. He needs a place more like how he was raised - less secular I suppose.

That or, like I said earlier. I'm sure we could call in a favor to Hutch or Hinds.

Not sure if you figured it out yet or not but if Hendrix goes Juco, he does not have to sit out 2 years.

The 2 year rule applies directly between SEC schools. If Hendrix went from UT to Mizzou, they can require him to sit 2 years. He is going from UT to juco. There are no sit out requirements for that transfer. After that, UT is completely out of the situation. He is now a Juco player transferring to D1. There is no restrictions on that. He can come to Mizzou and play right away.

If he redshirts his one year at Juco, he will have 3 years to play 3 at Mizzou.

he should be able to graduate from JUCO in 1 year and then have 3 to play 3

assuming he CAN graduate from the juco in 1 year, then yes, he would be able to qualify for play, immediately in the subsequent season at any school.

I have no idea if he will end up at MU.

best approach to take here, when kids go juco it's always unknown when/where/if they will show up at the next level.

Sounds like maybe football isn't for this young man.

Maybe it's been announced that he'll land at Duke. And while Coach Cut is a wonderful coach (he coached at UT and we love him to death - still cheer for him). I kinda get the feeling that the pressure of being at a big football school as well as UT having double the enrollment is a bigger reason why. He'll have no trouble starting there and he won't be outshone by Wolf throughout his career (Wolf has been compared to Witten by several - one tough mofo with loads of potential even tho' he was lower ranked than Helm) although there's no doubt Helm would have been used just as much since since they're very different TEs. Helm is the highly athletic pass-catcher whereas Wolf is more all purpose - your blocking, grind it out kind of TE.

Coach Cut has the rep of being a gentleman and he is but in terms of coaching he puts up with no bs and is harder on his players than folks realize (Tyler Bray would've been run off had Cut been around). BUT I don't know much about their TE coach. What I do know is that it's smaller, less pressure, and he may have a better chance of fitting in tho' I kinda doubt that unless he was just overwhelmed by the sheer size of our enrollment which can happen easily even to regular small town kids. He may also have a friend(s) and/or gf there but I don't know for sure.

Regardless I do hope it works out for him as I know from very reliable sources he was a fish out of water here with a lot of trouble relating to social aspects here. He was overwhelmed. And the social problems/fitting in was the biggest issue for him.

Maybe Duke's much smaller size (their enrollment is ~half ours) and cliquish nature will work for him. Best of luck as he has the talent and has been portrayed as good person who just wasn't comfortable here due to social issues/problems fitting in. He just has so much talent - would hate to see him call it quits again.
