And why it took so long? I know it doesn't matter now, but would be curious to know why it took so long, if Clark and Odom were actually considered/talked to, if there were other names, etc.

Just connecting the dots........I think Gus wanted Muschamp from day 1. I have a feeling the offer got better as the days passed. I also think Muschamp wanted to look around a little. I read yesterday morning that Gus gave Muschamp 24 hours to decide or Gus was going in a different direction. Muschamp decided he had better jump all over it. You also have to remember that Muschamp was out of the country until late last week/early this week. So really this thing got done in less than a week.

Based on the insider comments I heard from reliable sources I believe a deal was in place but CWM wanted to look around a bit. Sexton used that to get a bit more money and CWM waited till late Friday because part of the deal was getting some other coaches on board. This gave him a week of vacation and still two days to recruit before the dead period.

It appears USCe wasn't ever a player. Texas A&M offered but wasn't considered and UH was likely just a move to get his name associated with a head gig again for the future. PM is pretty conservative and throughout the entire process seemed to think CWM would be at Auburn. That tells me he had a strong source that he couldn't act on that said it was done.

If he didn't do anything regarding a contract while on vacation, then the deal happened pretty quickly.

Let's be honest with ourselves. If Muschamp is successful at Auburn, and a team wants to take the chance to hire him as a HC again, there's a chance he would leave. However, I believe that won't happen until after at least 2-3 seasons.
