At the first drop, I didn't say anything,(to Duke)" Craig said. "The second drop I went to him and said, 'Listen, we talked about seeing the ball in.' His head was down, 'I said get your head up. I never want to see your head down in an Auburn uniform. You have to have a foundation, a base.'

"He said, 'Coach, my foundation is looking the ball in.' I said, 'Exactly, first half is over, you come out the second half it's a new day and let's play football.'"

"We felt No. 7 (of k State) was being very aggressive throughout the game," Craig said. "He jumped a 3-cut early in the game and knocked it down. We tried a go route with Sammie, he sat on that.

"During the game, I told Coach Malzahn No. 7 is going to jump the double move. It was 3rd and 9 and we needed the first down and we felt like the double-move would be there. D'haquille ran a great route."

"In the fourth quarter, (Williams) grabbed me and said, 'Thank you Coach,'" Craig said. "That's just part of coaching. It was his first game on the road, hostile environment. It was different for him. He came out and fought hard and made the plays in the second half. He made a great catch on the touchdown and made a great catch with the double-move.

I wish we had some inside info on Craig's interaction with Gus and Rhett on running the O. Specifically in a couple of years when Rhett leaves to be a HC, is Craig the guy? If not, will he be loyal enough to AU to be satisfied? Does he want to be a HC ultimately?

He's Co-OC, but I think at this point, that's more him helping with game planning and really what it means to be a coordinator/play caller, etc vs just being a position coach. I'm sure he has carte blanche to make suggestions about play calls, etc. during the games, but I think it's more of a learning role at this point.

It's a good question though, because he's still young and has a long coaching future ahead of him.

Why does everyone assume this is a sure thing?

99.9% of the coaches want to be a HC ultimately.

Because barring our offense spontaneously combusting it will happen. He has more influence on game planning and play calling than a number of our fan base care or want to believe. Gus is grooming him to be a HC and through that he's given Rhett a lot of offensive resposibility.

DC has always been a stud. He will continue to be successful as a coach -- I just hope it continues to be at Auburn
