Vs. WVU:
1. Bubble Screen complete for 24 yards (Cooper)
2. Comeback route in the flat for 7 yards (Cooper)
3. Stick in the flat for 2 yards (White)
4. Smash route incomplete 3 yards past scrimmage (Cooper)
5. Play action pass on a dig route for 11 yards (Cooper)
6. Inside spot route for 4 yards (Cooper)
7. Play action throwaway pass incomplete
8. Breakdown of protection, Sims finds Jones about 14 yards downfield after scrambling (Jones)
9. Sims scramble, open White about 15 yards downfield on Bench? route incomplete (White)
10. Stick route complete for 5 yards (Cooper)
11. Smash route complete for 17 yards (Cooper)
12. Curl in the flat for 10 yards (Cooper)
13. Bubble screen, Cooper missed the block complete for -3 yards (White)
14. Hitch route incomplete (White)
15. Smash route complete for 38 yards (White is a monster and this should have been about a 5 yard gain. Can't wait to have him back against Florida)
16. Smash route again complete for 3 yards (White)
17. Dig route to the middle of the field for 14 yards (White)
18. Flat out route for 3 yards (Jones)
19. Slant route for 8 yards (Cooper)
20.Streak route to Cooper double covered about 45 yards downfield incomplete but PI penalty drawn (Cooper)
21. Play Action Deep-in beautiful throw to White for 19 yards (White)
22. Overthrown Post Route to Cooper incomplete (Cooper)
23. Comeback route to Cooper for 13 yards (Cooper)
24. Naked Flat to Cooper for 6 yards (Cooper)
25. Shallow Cross route for 7 yards (Fowler)
26. Deep Out to Cooper for 15 yards (Cooper)
27. DEEP corner route to Jones. This is the one he dropped that's just inexcusable. Sims throws from the 33 yardline (LOS is 42) down to the 9 yardline of WVU. Total yardage in the air is 58 yards, 49 yards from the LOS)
28. Fade to the endzone is double covered incomplete (Cooper)
29. Bad throw into double/triple coverage on the TE go route. Intercepted. (Howard)
30. Quick out route for 10 yards (Cooper)
31. Spot route for 6 yards (Jones)
32. Incomplete Deep out to sidelines route by Jones that was dropped. (Jones)
33. Yeldon on a bubble screen, RB screen, whatever jailbreak screen. 1 yard (Yeldon)
34. Slant route for 8 yards (Black)
Phew. That took a lot. So for this game:
"Bubble" screens: 3
Smash and slant routes are really effective. White in space is exciting. Good flat routes executed.
Deep balls: TE interception, Jones drop, PI call for Cooper play, beautiful throw to White, and a bunch of throws that were 10-15 yard gains. Good throws.
Vs FAU:
1. Bubble Screen for 19 yards (Black)
2. Slant route for 18 yards. FAU is bad. (Cooper)
3. Bubble screen for 3 yards (Cooper)
4. Kenyan Drake swing pass for 14 yards. It was counted as a running play because it was passed behind. (Drake)
5. Naked flat to Cooper for 8 yards (Cooper)
6. Bubble Screen for 52 yards and a TD (Cooper)
7. Play action post out route to Jones who dropped it. may have been a tad out of his reach but catchable. (Jones)
8. Stab over the middle route about 10 yards in, (Cooper)
9. Naked flat to Cooper for 6 yards (Cooper)
10. Bubble Screen to Drake for 39 yards and a TD (Drake). Actually upset about this one because it wasn't a good look and Blake stared at Drake before the play started.
11. Play action deep cross about 20 yards downfield, Good for 41 yards (Jones)
12. Hitch route for 11 yards (Black)
13. Cooper wide open in the endzone. Blake throws it a bit behind and may have been tipped on the way there but Cooper drops it. Incomplete(Cooper)
14. Cooper on a quick outside route for 7 yards (Cooper)
So, this game, meh. Not much to see here except Sims didn't have to do much. Lots of screens and short passes. But the passes he did make further downfield were good passes, just got dropped.
Also if there was an easier way to do this other than going and looking at every play I am going to be very upset. I also don't want to do USM right now so if someone else wants to add USM feel free.

Is there a point for this??? Look at AJ throws vs lesser teams last year. He threw nothing but screens as well.

It was actually meant to show that Sims isn't just throwing screens. People are trying to suppose that Sims has no idea how to throw anything but a screen pass when it's pretty clear he has the skills to throw the ball anywhere on the field.

I like Blake Sims but I disagree...ive seen him throw 2 deep balls and he put far too much air under the ball.

Hopefully he proves me wrong though...I hope the first play is a bomb for a touchdown.

Well watch the games. He has thrown plenty of deep balls that were well thrown.
Now if you're talking hail mary throws, they are rare for a reason. But he has shown he has the arm strength to get the ball there.

What do you call a deep ball?

I think Blake has shown that he is our best option to win, at this point. With that said, I'm still very nervous about his ability to stretch the field vertically.. AJ had the arm talent to do so... I'm still not sold on Sims' ability to do that yet. I think the fact that he is a dual threat makes him a great asset, however to keep the really good defenses honest, the threat of airing it out MUST BE THERE... If Sims can do that, then the Bama offense has the potential to be TRULY frightening... RTR

I agree. I don't think we win the WVU game without Sims ability to escape the pocket but to say you've seen him throw the ball deep is a flat out lie.

People tend to forget but AJ had a propensity to overthrow deep balls in '11 and under throw them in '12. It's a low percentage pass no matter who is the QB

Over 45 yards deel
25-45 is long

<10 is short.

Not trying to be an apologist for Sims, but pretty sure this was against single coverage. Howard ran the go route and beat his guy by a step. Cooper, on the same side of the field, ran an out route but didn't "sell it" to the corner covering him, who dropped off of Coop as the ball was thrown, and came over to pick off the pass. While Blake could've shown better field vision, the guy who picked off the pass wasn't even in the picture until Sims released the ball...
If I remember correctly, Brian Griese was one of the commentators and made a statement saying something like "...that pick wasn't all on Sims." He thought the play wasn't well designed; said something like Cooper's pattern was too close to Howard's and allowed the DB to peel off and intercept the pass. From what I recall, I think the pass would've hit Howard in stride for a big play if that DB hadn't broke off of Coop...
That being said, I can see your point. Sims is gonna have to prove that he can accurately throw the intermediate to deeper routes against SEC defenses. I still think he's our best option; Coker still doesn't look comfortable...unless our offense implodes some time this season, I think Coker will see spot play this year and be the man next year...

If you look back at that play, OJ didn't do Sims any favors either. Almost like he wasn't even looking for the ball.
