I got rid of Comcast the other day, switching over to Dish. The company I work with has a relationship with Dish, so I thought I'd give it a try.

Are there any other Dish customers out there? Anything I should be on the lookout for when it comes to football season?

I already made sure the package I have has the SEC Network. Anything else?

And yes, lurking Texas fans, I get the Longhorn Network apparently.

My old man had Dish for years, and it was great. Channels were clear and organized well. Never had trouble with reception in bad weather. For whatever reason, he switched to Direct. Reception is spotty as hell in weather that wouldn't bother Dish, and the channel lineup is horrible the way it's organized.

I have UVerse based on where I live, but if I had to pick a sat provider tomorrow, it'd be Dish.

DISH is the absolute whooop. You'll never go back.

Did you order the Hoppers or the VIP722s?

We've just replaced our VIP722s with Hoppers here at the house, although we moved the 722s to the beach. But, so far, I really like these Hoppers.

You got the Top 250 ... you're covered.

you get the LHN, but it's not in HD... they just recently added ESPNU in HD, so that's nice.

overall, i like dish... unless it's just raining cats and dogs outside.

Got two TVs in the house. Hopper on the main, and a Joey upstairs. So we're all set in that department :)

I've got the Top 200 (because the wife and I had to have BBC America as well). I glanced at both packages for their Sports channels, and they look identical. Am I missing something?

Honestly, in the Shenandoah Valley (the portion I live in at least) we don't get much in the way of really heavy rains. We had a brief storm yesterday, but we were watching the TV fine up to that point.

Wax your dish. That'll take care of the rain fade "most of the time." It's a problem with all satellite dishes since they got away from the large meshed dishes and went with the small solid dishes.

Rain is usually not the problem, although rain fade can happen in really really heavy rains a couple of times a year. Heavy cloud coverage mixed with a lot of lightening is the problem ... way up in the atmosphere.

But wax your dish with car wax so that the rain runs off - it helps.

Mainly the movie channels and the music channels ... which we use a lot. Not much more money.

We wouldn't use the music channels really, but the movie channels might be worth it. I figured I'd see how the service was in my area before making a lot of upgrades. I did up from 120 to get BBC America though. Can't miss Doctor Who, Copper or The Musketeers.
