That really sucks.
The article makes it seem like you have to stay on the medicine to keep fighting off being positive. I wonder why they took the Mississippi child off of it

I thought her being off medicine was a part of the testing?
Anyway this sucks. But overall this work has been a step in the right direction I guess. It's like an old professor of mine used to say, "that's why it's called RE-search."

Are the side effects of the medication bad? I know that they are expensive.

It's still looking a hell of alot better than AIDS of the 90s. You got that shite then and you might as well have a reaper chilling at your bedside.

I guess this is just a part of advancing the research then. It really is a shame that a child will have to live the rest of its life with HIV though just because the parents couldn't keep it clean.

I agree. Breaks my heart for the kid.

the child had been seen regularly until about 18 months of age. Then the mother missed a number of appointments. When the child returned five months later, there was no detectable virus despite the fact the child had not received any treatment during that time. During subsequent visits, spaced out every six to eight weeks, the child also tested negative for the virus. Gay said the child came again last week and appeared physically well. But a few days later the bloodwork came back and showed signs of the virus.
What the frick?

It's only a matter of time until it's finally cured. Hopefully, with the frantic pace of technological advancements, we can be there within the next ten years.

You act like you're surprised?
The fact that the girl was born with HIV in the first place suggests that her parents aren't exactly quality parenting material.

I mean I know I shouldn't be, you're right.

Absolutely, but you have to think even the shittiest of people could do better than this.

I admire your optimism. I don't share it, but I admire it.

Pretty sad news. Hopefully the strides that have been made will prove to be beneficial sooner rather than later.
