ITs a good deal. A local St Louis kid gets to come home and play for the BLues and make a cup run and the Blues dont get saddled with a long term contract. The BLues desperately need to fill the hole at center on this club. With Stastny and the Lehtra signing the Blues have done a good job taking a weakness and making it a strength in a matter of hours.

Its definitely a moment.

That's so awesome.

Now you guys can blame him when they choke. Glad they signed a solid scapegoat.

Great front office.

Happy he'll be in StL. Getting married this summer and signed a big deal, happy for him.

This will help, but it's not exactly what they need. He'll greatly increase the chances of Tarasenko being a big time goal scorer, interested to see how they play together.

Imagine a pitching staff needing an ace, and signing a legit solid number 3 starter. It's kinda like that.

and Jori Lehtera signing is big. From what I have read (never seen him play) but he was the steal of the draft. Makes the center position more competative

Set for he is a solid #2 center and David backes can go play on the wing where he belongs......so yeah it was what they needed.

yea, he is a tweener 1st/2nd line center. Best center available in FA.

It was more like getting a solid number two guy when you need an ace if we are going to use sleepys analogy

Not really. He's the equivalent of picking up a solid 16 game winner, with the potential to win 18. That's a solid number 3 starter on a contending team. A number 2 guy would be an 17-18 winner that could win 20.

Just because he's the number 2 center doesn't equate to him being like a number 2 pitcher.

The Blues need dynamic talent. They need at least one elite forward, all contending teams have multiple.

Paul is another B+, A- player. He's not dynamic in any way. He's a slower footed intelligent player who's positionally sound and smart with the puck. He's not the game changer the Blues need, not a bad signing, he'll be useful, just not what is most needed.

The pitching anology is pretty worthless if we are being honest.

Nope

Agreed that he is not a dynamic game changer but he is a better center than the Blues have and is an upgrade. Should make the players on the ice with him better.

All this is true, and I said as much.

Blues still don't have a Kane, Crosby, Malkin, Datsyuk, Getszalf ect. All of the real contenders have at least one, but usually multiple elite players in that echelon. Blues don't have any.

What is laughable about this?

Be specific.

That's the key. If turns Tank into a 40-50 elite goal scorer it will be a success, despite the high dollars.

Ill be whatever I want man.

Anyway,

He is what the Blues need. They need to fill holes down the middle and the addition of Stastny and Lehtera go a long way to filling that need.

You can preach about "Elite talent" all you want but thats fairly subjective. DO you get to determine "elite" level? Toews had 8 more points than Stastny last year playing in 6 more games and you call him "elite" The Rangers marched to the Cup Finals last year as well.

The laughable part is saying "its not what the Blues need" ITs exactly what the Blues "need" and was addressed by picking up the best center in FA.

Well....

Considering I'm a phone call away from working in the USHL, and turn down easy scouting paydays I think I'm a little more qualified than most.

And I've skated with the player in question over 1,000 times.

Toews is elite in a different way, his entire package is considered elite, but he's not the dynamic offensive threat that Kane is.

When the game locks up in the playoffs you need guys that can break through anything.

And they got killed. Easiest money I've ever made.

They got through a so-so Eastern Conference

You know that Backes is universally, among NHL GMS, to be considered an "elite" Power Forward?

Only one team can win the cup every year.

I dont know, you just get annoying I think. You are the "contrarian" period. You poo poo on pretty much every popular opinion be it sports or other things.

I get thats your schtick but your responses are fairly predictable .

You don't believe these things?

Yeah, he's not a dangerous threat. Good solid power forward, lots of intangible, but he doesn't posses elite skill. Blues have no one that can be dangerous anywhere on the ice with the puck. Kane picks up the puck in his own end, even that is threatening. All the best teams have at least one of those guys.

It's more your inability to see my opinions in there full spectrum. Paul's going to be useful, we needed a center man, he'll pair with Tarasenko very nicely. But at the end of the day they still don't have an ace, which is needed.
