I don't think it's an accident that these types of guys keep showing up on our roster. Our coaches have identified personality trait they like. Self-motivation isn't something you can coach. And it's worth a whole lot as a predictor of future success.

He's coming on a track & field scholarship right? And then walking on to the football team?

And they don't have to baby sit these types of kids. They know enough to not screw it up.

State champion sprinter? Hmm, I'd probably put him out on the sideline rather than at slot, but we will see.

DGB always hung with the wrong crowd. He was that kind of person in Springfield. Just never got busted.

Question, if he is a legit track participant but improves in football to the point that he plays in a few games (kickoff return etc.) does he count toward a football scholarship spot?

He has the track scholly. He will be a preferred walk on, so no.

So for arguments sake, a school could stash a few fast kids on the track team and have them also play football to save scholly spots. Or say Drew Lock could get a B-Ball scholly and still QB football? is that right.

Yep I think so. If the track coach was willing to do so. There have been several two sport stars that have done that kind of thing.

any athlete that is on a non-football scholarship counts towards the 85 football scholarship limit if it meets either of these requirements:
1) Was contacted and recruited by football coaches
2) If they were never contacted or recruited for football, they count towards the football scholarship limit if they compete in a game.
This kid was recruited by mizzou football. By #1, he automatically goes against the scholarship limit.
If he hadn't been recruited, he wouldn't count until he played. So if he didn't play until a junior, he wouldn't count until that season.

No. That is why the implemented recruiting and participation rules.

Thanks for sharing that article. Very sad to think kids have to endure that kind of upbringing.
Hopefully all of his dreams come true.
