Article talking about his experience trying to change the culture around the athletic department at USC.

I found this pretty hysterical though

quote:

[Hyman] has worked on improving the communication within the A&M athletics department and already has seen some results — a recent result from Public Policy Polling revealed that 22 percent of fans said they were Aggies while 20 percent said they were Texas Longhorns. The last time the poll was conducted, Texas led 23-15.

Hyman is such a douche bag. I was so damn happy to see him go. The asshat was taking credit for the grass growing and the sky being blue by the time he left.

I have season tickets to most Aggies sports and have only seen him 2-3 times. I see the Aggie president at 95% of EVERY sporting events shaking hands and meeting everyone. He makes Hyman look bad.

I don't remember past presidents or AD's placing nearly as much emphasis on the chamber of commerce meet & greet stuff. I think President Loftin just enjoys that stuff; not sure it's a reflection on how anyone else is doing his job.

Also, if SCrooster hates him, I probably like him.

As long as he knows how to make a good basketball hire, realizes that pot isn't heroin and learns to bring water to coach sumlin when he's thirsty I won't mind him.

The good for us?

He overpayed for Sumlin, THE move that saved our program the next five years.

The bad?

He would not allow a team vote to determine punishments so we are at disadvantage.

Byrne was very visible as well and I liked his newsletter updates. I guess it is tough to be impressed or dislike a guy you barely know exist.

He left some pretty funny voicemails though. Who does he think he is? The Lieutenant Governor?

Hyman's philosophy almost upon arrival, and I took a ride with him in his dealer-supplied Lincoln out at the University Club on almost the first day he got here right after the Spurrier golf tourney ... his philosophy was made clear. He is a political person, wants everyone to love him, delegates the dirty stuff ... takes credit for victories and accomplishments of his subordinates. He will come into a new situation that is ripe for the picking and then muck it up, claim it is all wrong, restructure it and inevitably get it back to exactly where it was before he mucked-it up, if not worse ... then claim it as all his and put his mark on it while adding it to his resume.

As you mentioned Cockopotamus, the Carolina Stadium project is a fine example. Mike McGee left with it financed and shovel ready. Hyman promptly came in, changed contractors (which we are now regretting), almost screwed-up the land deal on the river with the Guignard family, stepped all over Ray Tanner's toes ... then, in the end, Hyman claims it as his from scratch. And that's just one example.

The PSLs thing, that wasn't the big deal with that asshat honestly, I mean the PSLs had to be done, they were inevitable. The big deal was him cutting back on the Band travel budget, on him cutting back on other budgets of support-programs integral to our Athletic Department, in order for him to shift money to his pet projects which were really his wife's pet projects.

And speaking of that bitch he is married to ... her involvement in the whole Garcia thing - regardless of what anyone might think of Garcia, she waaaay over-stepped her boundaries where the Garcia incident was concerned ... and personally, as old fashioned as I am when it comes to bratty kids giving lip service to their elders and needing their asses torn out of their sockets .... she got off light IMHO. And believe me, the Hymans knew it was time to get the helloutta town regardless of the contract extension Eric finagled while claiming his alma mater was coming after him in Chapel Hill a year earlier.

Which brings to light another issue with Hyman. Despite so many of us raising hell with our regents and BoTs when Hyman's contract was being renewed and he was getting his raise ... the BoTs still gave it to him because they didn't want to have to deal with Ray leaving his post as baseball skipper in a year in which we should have probably made it four in a row at the CWS. But despite all of that, after they received certain assurances from Hyman, they award him the raise and the extension ... and he turned around and screwed the ones that backed him. Now, they're all admitting they got screwed on the deal and one or two of them are gone or are going as a result - but still yet, Hyman proved right then and there he is not to be trusted.

He's not to be trusted on so many levels I've lost count.

On the other hand, he is effective on some things - and he knows how to budget and deal with BoTs and big boosters.

Buster needs to tread a little lighter around the football program.

Crossing Sumlin would be the one thing that would get him fired in a hurry.

I have to lol a bit ... "pompous arse" was probably the most commonly evoked descriptor of Hyman after his first few months here. I think I heard more people refer to him as "pompous arse" than anything, although there were others who certainly referred to him in much harsher terms.

He crossed Spurrier over more than a couple of players and more than a couple of Spurrier's personal football policies. I know for a fact that Spurrier once talked about packing it up and leaving if Hyman kept interfering with some of his decisions.

Hyman played football at UNC so he feels uniquely qualified to inject himself into all maters football related ... and he will, right down to questioning play calling.

You'll often hear Hyman refer to his ideas as his "master plan." "My master plan" this and that sort of stuff. Because he considers himself the master of everything.

I got another lol out of reading Hyman's bio on one of the Aggie sites .l.. I mean the guy had been there all of what, eight months when it was written?

quote:

Regarded as an architect of championship programs ....

A national leader with Texas roots, Eric Hyman has led Texas A&M University to eye-opening success in the Southeastern Conference as Director of Athletics.

What Texas roots? His kids moving there? His time at TCU?
