Anybody have any real insight as to what really went down?

He knew he had lost control of the team.

Couldn't take the UF fans after a while...just like Spurrier couldn't...his qb was gone and he knew the job was going to be tough.
Why have the red hot poker fire at Gainesville when you can go up north and have 30% of the pressure? He can recruit across the nation and play in pansy league. He did the ESPN thing and got a lot of contacts.
Fans become insufferable after success...Saban is experiencing it now. Our 2009 team was awesome..we went 12-0 and it was like we were 4-8 for Gods sake. We didn't win by enough...we didn't throw enough etc etc....it was the worse season on the internet for a 12-0 team. That's why Meyer left.
Although a good coach...he never warmed to me..he was a Yankee and had a habit of talking down to you like he knew everything and you are an idiot.
I much prefer a southern boy like Muschamp who is "what you see is what you get" Not wearing socks on his penny loafers during sit down interview with Mick shortly after being hired. He inherited a weak team that had immense locker room problems...the ones who wouldn't change got sent out quickly. We had to suffer through 2011 and Muschamp promised us he would make us tough...he did. He HAD to recruit defense first to rebuild a team. Now that his defense has been built the OC has brought in a bunch of highly rated WRs (very much needed) and now he has a key QB recruited along with more WR help help.
Its understandable that fans are upset...hell if 12-0 upset them...4-4 is downright torture
and believe me...it is for me.

You make a very good point here (that has nothing to do with Meyer)...that explains a lot of the reactions we are getting out of the fan base this year. True, we have some serious issues, but these past years of having little to no offense might be what we need (as a fan base) to come down from the clouds a little bit.

Anyone could see the 2009 offense was too reliant on Tebow.
It was 2007 all over again, except without Percy Harvin.
And I didn't complain because of the fact that we were 12-0.
That 2009 SECCG was one of hte worst coaching jobs I've ever seen though.
Demps and Rainey had success running early, and Addazio completely abandoned the running game after the 1st Q.

Do you guys miss Meyer? And do you think he stays at OSU or leaves for another job.

He stays at OSU unless he gets the NFL itch.

A lot of that will depend on how chip Kelly does imo.

The only thing I miss about Meyer is that he had a knack for getting guys up for big rivalry games.
Otherwise, no.

Look at Meyers 2005 team...it was so so and we got blown out by Bama...he didn't really do that much better than Zook...he just didn't have Miami on his schedule like Zook. He won big in 2006 with Zooks defense pure and simple...it was a senior laden team by then...then look at 2007 when only 2 starters returned on defense...he had Tebow to help save the season and we lost 4 games inc UGA....if he would have had Murphy at qb we would have finished probably 5-7 since we had no real defense in 07.
Zook could flat out recruit and he left a lot of talent. Meyer could recruit after the successes and Tebow was magic...but he was a Gator and it would have been real hard to lose him.
