This thread gives me hope.
Nice PR move by Slive to lead the way early on this.

The worst rule in college football is making an unrecovered fumble in your opponent's end zone a touchback
I assume you mean when a fumble goes in the endzone and out of bounds. Its an NFL rule as well, and it is the correct rule for that situation. A fumble in the endzone that continues out of the back of the endzone returns to the spot of the fumble with the offense retaining possession. The endzone fumble rules are designed to prevent intentionally fumbling forward without consequence. Seems logical to me.
And before anyone questions my intentions; yes UGA has been burned in the past on both types of situations and they were the correct call both times.

This rule especially sucks for the SEC because they have the most aggressive defensive backs.

of course a Georgia fan would like the fumble/turnover rule.
in no way is it fair. why does a team like Georgia deserve the turnover/possession when the defense did nothing to earn it?
the Tennessee player would have done his team better by taking a knee on the one foot line, then stand up and kick the shite out of the Georgia defender next to him. it would have only been a 15 yard penalty, and Tennessee would have retained possession.

Buddy, it has nothing to do with fan alliances. As a fan I have been on both the giving and receiving end of all types of rules and call that are questionable. However, as a former scout and player in college football I have sat in on rule committee meetings and seen first hand why these rules are put into place. Granted it has been 15 years since that has happened, but I am sure it hasn't changed that much.
As to your rebuttal, what would be your opinion if an offensive player saw a defender coming toward him at the 2 yard line and he was loosing possesion of the ball and he decided it was in his teams best interest to just throw it out of the endzone and retain possession for his team. Would the defense not have "deserved" possession?

I know the music sucks in the video but there's been this sort of anti-defense fervor going on. In a lot of cases it seems like it'd be better to just let the offensive player catch the ball. In this case, an offensive player shows no regard for helmet to helmet contact (which seems that it can't be initiated by the offensive side of the ball) and while I recognize that this is a few years back -- I doubt anyone would enforce it on an offensive player.
Has targeting been called on a player on the offense?
P.S., sorry for the music and quality of that video, it's not mine.

That exact type of play is what forced the NFL to inact a new rule that penalizes a RB for lowering his head and using his helmet as a weapon. I cannot imagine that the NCAA is far behind on some sort of similar rule.

Thank god.
The targetting rule as it exists right now is insane.

Where are you getting that?

using your hypothetical, say said runner sees said defender coming towards him on say the 10 yard line. he throws it out of bounds. who keeps possession? correct the offense does. what's the difference? it looks like we want to punish a team much worse for approaching the opponents goal line. I thought the objective in football was to try to take the football to the opponents endzone.
