He should not be told that he has to keep this coach or that coach. If he wants to clean house, including BVG, so be it. Tim Jackson and JJ need to be shown the road and if they are not the new coach needs to kick Tim Jackson's arse off of the sidelines and out of the athletic department. Jackson keeps an eye out, reports to JJ who in turn reports to others. What coach wants to work under those circumstances? This is why Chizik was probably hired. He was willing to accept those terms. If we hire Petrino, is he willing to accept those terms just to get this chance? I certainly hope not. This is probably why Auburn has never hired a big time coach and this is why we will not get one as long as this system is in place.

The number one thing the new coach must do is win the players over. They have to WANT to stay and get back on track.

I don't know who you are talking about but I am glad someone else sees this. To me, it's as plain as the nose on your face.

Alabama was the same way before Saban got there. It wasn't until the powers got tired of seeing Tubberville win in BDS that they backed down. Maybe this season will cull the parasites that are holding us back.

You are exactly right. But is the group at Auburn to that point yet? I don't think so. I think that they are making a power play as we speak as to who will be the next coach. If they win out and JJ stays, you can bet that the next coach will have agreed to their terms. Often people who have absolute power find it very hard to give it up. They may be pushed back into the shadows for a time, but their medling continues and they are always working to get whatever power they have lost back. This is true in many real-life situations- not only in athletics at Auburn. People such as this often love themselves more than they love whatever institute that you are talking about. Power often does this to people. Just my 2 cents.

The Mayors post, he is a solid poster, some inside info.

I really wish I could believe or have hope that we would go get a guy like Gruden or Cower or Dungee. That would be great. That would be a total grand slam and would immediately strike fear in the hearts of LSU, AL and the rest of college football. Sadly, that's not how we do things at Auburn. To get a guy like that you have to get out of the way and turn the program over to them. A guy like that will not come to Auburn or any other school without having complete control of his program. That's the problem at Auburn. We have too many people who want to have their hand in the say so of the program...and it's not Pat Dye though many like Finebaum try and convince you of that. Pat Dye doesn't have near as much power as people act or think. Instead of going out and getting a grand slam hire, we want to go get a guy like Bobby Petrino and tell him he has to keep Van Gorder and maybe one or two others and tell him who his support staff is and who his G.A.'s are and who his strength coach is etc. etc. etc. The powers that be do not want to allow someone to come in and run the program. They want to run it and have these little puppet coaches run the day to day operations.

All of this is fact...not rumor. And it's worse than this....And I don't want to go off on this a lot but I have been screaming to whoever would listen (nobody) that Tim Jackson needed to go since Cam was here. Tim Jackson's basic role is to watch over the coaching staff's shoulders during the game and report back to Double J, who by the way is just a puppet himself. Double J doesn't make a decision without calling 9 or 10 people and asking them what they "think". At any rate, Tim Jackson also takes the role of babysitter for any players like Cam that you may want to get autographs from. Now, some people probably think this is a good idea, but I ask you to look at how this effects the rest of the team. What happens is, you end up having the Auburn team and then a couple of rock stars who are treated differently, complete with entourages while the rest of the team is separate and have separate rules 90% of the time. It's not healthy for the team and it's not an effective way of uniting or creating a team atmosphere. If Auburn has a Gustapo, its name is Tim Jackson. Imagine going to work next week and your boss standing over your shoulder everywhere you went except the bathroom. Yeah...that's what Chizik is dealing with.

This is also the reason why I am not in favor of Auburn hiring Bobby Petrino and trying to keep Van Gorder or other coaches they like. If Auburn wants to take its football program to the place LSU and Alabama are in currently, they have to get a coach who will kick Tim Jackson off of the sidelines and run his program the way he sees fit. Auburn has had 3 coaches in its history that did this and they are our most successful coaches. Shug, Dye and Tuberville all told the powers that be where they could go. Tuberville, of course eventually couldn't fight it anymore and wore himself thin (remember Jimmy Raines) ....Enter Gene Chizik and the Gustapo. Now we're seeing Gene Chizik run out of steam and what it looks like we're going to get is another puppet of the powers that be running our beloved program. It's not going to work and it will never work until we get a coach that kicks these folks off the sidelines and takes control of the program.

This is why I believe we will not go out and get a big time hire and why we didn't go get one when we hired Chizik. In my opinion and I will state that this is just my opinion so as to not try and start rumors or whatever, this is why we will hire Bobby Petrino and announce it after the AL game. I hate it. I think it stinks. It frustrates the heck out of me, but I believe Petrino will be our next coach. Here's to hoping I'm wrong. Cheers.
