Seriously, has Bama ever played in a national title game and lost?...not trying to flame..just curious, and don't feel like looking it up.

not since it was one versus two because remember 1 may play 4 or 5 and 2 may play 3in the old system, but our last shot was in 92 which was a 1 vs 2 matchup and obviously we won.

Technically this is our first National Championship Game. Others were just bowls that happened to have matched up #2 v. #1. I'm not sure of the record of those happenings, however.

Doesn't matter whether you're playing the number one, two or five ranked team..if you are in the natioal championship game, have you ever lost one?...

Yeah, like in '89 we were #7 playing Miami who was #1 so it wasn't really a NC for us. I think we won or tied all of them that were for us to win the NC. Of course their was the period when the NC was awarded before bowl games and I know we lost one of those bowl games, but had already had claimed the NC.

Yeah it does, there didn't used to be a NC game so to speak. The NC was just awarded by polls.

Like I said, we we're number 7 playing a number one team. That's not really a NC game for us, but it is for them.

64 is debatable, but like I said we had been awarded the NC before the bowl. The one that best fits his questionn would be 1973 when we lost to an undefeated ND 24-23.

#2 Bama was smoked by #1 Nebraska in the '72 Orange Bowl, which was the game to decide the NC..

The 1937 Alabama team lost the 1938 Rose Bowl to California 13-0. Alabama finished the season 9-1. California finished 10-0-1. California and Pittsburgh both claim NCs for 1937.

1938 Rose Bowl - L 13-0 California
1972 Orange Bowl - L 38-6 Nebraska
1974 Sugar Bowl - L 24-23 Notre Dame
1975 Orange Bowl - L 13-11 Notre Dame

And, to the Tennessee fan talking about the national championship game not starting until 1998, there was a thing called the Bowl Coalition in 1992 when #1 Miami and #2 Alabama played in the Sugar Bowl. That lasted until 1994 when it was replaced by the Bowl Alliance for the seasons of '95, '96, '97.
