Yes, by some. He was an arrogant prick wearing mock turtlenecks, when he left there was a lot of "don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out" comments.

My uncle was a professor at Michigan State, and when Saban left there he said a lot of folks were glad to see him go.

Saban wins enough to tolerate that side, but let's not act like he's beloved for any other reason.

No. Very simple explanation-

he's following Orgeron and the disaster of 2020 and 2021. It's the complete opposite of following a legend; the guy that follows Saban will be hated the first time they lose.
Kelly walks into a situation where 8-4 and a coherent press conference will be welcomed next year, as long as there's progress.
