I know you have to do what you have to do to win and It Just Means More, but these salaries and buyouts are ridiculous. There is no reality where coaches like Ed Orgeron and Will Muschamp deserve tens of millions. The only coach who is worth his salary is Saban.

Is this the new Fulmer cup?

Thank you for feeling compelled to weigh in on the inner workings of Auburn’s administrative politics as a Bama fan, but that should be “Run out of town…”
The cowboy was run out of town.
RT1941 ran to his mommy.
It’s called verb tenses. You can use Google to learn more about it.
Clearly you are referencing a scandal, but I have no memory of Auburn “staring down the barrel” of NCAA trouble during Gus’s tenure.

The "scandal" he's referring to is Leath and Jacobs giving Gus that asinine contract that did indeed end with both of them leaving Auburn.
41 has a better bead on Auburn football dynamics than most. His analyses are usually spot-on.

Yea b/c all NCG winning coaches get their pay docked after winning a title for the school.

My apologies if my statement insinuated Leath was sketchy and "run" out of town with $2 million and told to STFU on his way out.
I never mentioned Gus' tenure nor anything about NCAA trouble from either of those men. Gus was the real genius though, he pulled 10 times Leath's $$ on his way out.

Arkansas completely screwed Auburn financially when we flirted with Gus.
Arkansas screwed LSU with Les Miles too, or at least Les' agent did hinting that Arkansas was targeting him

@ Auburn. How is that number even possible?

If you're going to run a high pressure league and fire coaches with winning records, then it's going to take a King's ransom to attract men to these jobs. Schools and fans essentially have no loyalty to coaches. It's not like the Shug Jordan days when you can have a cold streak and keep your job. High Pressure + High Demand = High Salaries.
You'll never again see a Gerry DiNardo situation, with a coach taking a job in the SEC on the cheap because it's his dream (even going so far in DiNardo's case to buying out his own contract from Vanderbilt).

True, and as ridiculous as it may appear on the surface, the ROI for an elite coach is insane.
I'm guessing Saban has earned short of $100-million at Alabama, and the University has probably completed around $1-billion in campus improvements during that time.
Of course this isn't the case everywhere, but the ancillary money that a successful SEC coach brings into the program as a whole still far exceeds what they're paid.

Heh auburn is dumb. Wasting all that money on fired coaches while Bama and UGA are spending that on getting the good players.

Even though I don't want to admit it, it makes a lot of sense why we hired Beamer.

Schools are “DUMB AND DUMBER”
Get your coach in place and then give him 6-8 years before pulling the plug.
I include State in that as well. I am glad we have Leach but still have misgivings about the way Moorhead was fired.

The Saban Factor has driven a lot of this... programs trying to replicate a fraction of his success while at Alabama.
But...the buyouts are the most ridiculous thing in the sport. Now it's just automatic with the ridiculous buyout clauses...agents get it because ADs aren't held accountable and play with Monopoly money. ADs should take a financial hit personally on a percentage basis for any buyout paid to a coach they hired.
I have no problem with the big salaries...but being paid millions because you sucked arse is just disgusting. It's also why we now have players getting paid for endorsements. Hard to justify denying them money when the Chad Morrises of the world are getting $10 million checks to leave. Talk about a no pressure job.

I always felt Auburn should've been able to build a football only facility after the '10 NC & Heisman season. The time was ripe for Chizik to have petitioned the BOT and gotten the thing funded and built. Hell, if the '10 season didn't get facility then Gus' 2013 NC appearance damn sure should've gotten it built. Why delay it?
If you don't strike while the iron is hot, pussy foot around and wait, time runs out and you're in catch-up mode compared to your rivals.
