Glad you played the race card bc that was needed

That wasn’t a “woke” take or whatever you want to call it. That’s just facts.

In some cases you are recruiting black kids who have no real substantive interactions with other races based on circumstance or location. Similarly to predominantly white or Hispanic areas in this country. Only difference is they will now be put into a situation they have no idea how to navigate.

Whether it’s Kirby going into SWAT’s, Saban going into Finley or Maysville in AL, or Drink on the East Side/ North Side of STL, when they pull up for that home visit and the matriarch or patriarch of the family asks “Will you take care of my boy?”, a black kid who is probably 15 or 16 when you start recruiting them, what does a coach do or say? What examples does he lean on to show if you give me your 4 or 5 star talent that yes I practice what I preach?

Hate him or not, Pinkel and Ivey both did that and that speaks volumes. Now meeting other needs that those kids and their families may want or need, we can’t and don’t compete with the top half SEC teams to close the deal. We put it on coaches a lot, which is a big part, but sometimes the other variables keeps up where we at.

And you question Drink on these issues?

Drink has either the most AA assistants in the SEC or in Missouri history.

Race has no place in this conversation.

That would be a hilarious take if you put it as a white kid.

“My kid from West Plains is only around white kids. How are you going to meet his unique emotions and social-cultural needs?”

Hilarious.
