I think we have mixed results here. It’s not often we outplay LSU and lose, but I’m not sure it’s the offense. It’s one predicated on not beating yourself and we have failed miserably there. Turnovers via fumble and special teams plays have been killer. My analysis is that it CAN work, but it’s slow, boring, ball control and when you have a QB that isn’t a run threat, you really have no room for stuff that routinely happens during football games (false starts, dropped passes, dumb plays). The rush 3 drop 8 is the only thing Leach will ever see and this check dow for 5 yards is a snoozefest, but effective given mistake free football…but people frick up…to err is human…but my forgiveness is wearing thin.

I would still say I’m disappointed where we are, but I think the main thing is I’m disappointed with his aloofness and general lack of knowledge in how to manage a game and what is happening on the field. He doesn’t really appear to care if we win or lose. That’s the biggest concern for me. Very disappointed in how disconnected he is from the game. Dude is a space cadet and I’m afraid it’s always going to be that way.

I tried to warn MSU fans after the win over LSU last year that this was going to be the case and got pilloried for it.

That offense works against like 70% of college football defense. The problem is that SEC defenses are mostly in that 30% range that it won’t work against. The defensive lines here cause too much havoc to just dink and dunk 5 yards at a time for 15 plays without error like you said.

Miss state gave up 10 yards per play in the 2nd half.

Air Raid was created to attack defenses built on stuffing the run, blitzing and man coverage.

All the different spread offenses and RPO offenses have created a whole different defensive style that the Air Raid does not have advantages against.

Leach is too late to have success in the SEC...defenses have evolved too much.

They didn’t outplay LSU. They just picked up tons of yards between the 20’s.

Instant gratification fans always amaze me. No matter how good of a job a school does setting expectations and timelines for new coaches some people just are not capable of understanding it. I’m amazed that if it wasn’t because of bonehead special teams plays we would be undefeated. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season and seeing these players continue to develop. We do have to recruit an offensive line in the off-season.

Ya'll were down 18 in the 4th quarter and never had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the second half but "outplayed" LSU and lost. Good call.

How do you outplay a team that you never led for one second of the game and was down by three scores in the 4th lol?

It's not even close to what his system is.

If you want to know what it is... go watch some of the games where his system is fully in. Your QB, Rb, RB, Wr x what 5 are either sophomores or freshmen. To me, Leach is ahead of schedule and that's due to him actually having the talent.

As it's been said here many times before, look at what he has done in the 1.2 years he been there. Hell, you can't even count year 1. The most dramatic shift in the SEC on offense and not an easy one on defense either. People think it's simplistic, but it's not.

So here is what you had prior to Leach.

- A program imploding from Mullen leaving skill positions bare. That's evident under Moorhead.

- Moorhead lost control of a team already imploding and yes... it was and is why Mullen left. Your own player put your starting QB out of the Bowl game and the HC did not do a thing about it.... let him play.

- Leach took over and what happens. All of the sudden, you have players capable of catching a football. You have a QB that is a TRUE FRESHMAN throwing it and completing it 70% of the time.

- Leach had to clean house. You know it, I know it.

- He took a depleted team made them play above their level. He lost 3 games playing TRUE FRESHMEN at QB, RB, and WR and lost 3 games in the SEC by only 7.... 2 of those games he only had 44ish players.

Leach has always seen the rush 3 and drop 8. Nothing new. The SEC didn't magically invent it. His system beats that 2 when people do their jobs. The issue here is that you have new people on the job and they are not experienced enough. Mainly your QB and your RBs.

- RBs not seeing the holes. So they don't hit them fast. When they do, it's explosive.

- The QB plays to not make mistakes. It's a great thought, but it hurts him in that he will not push it down field until late.

Those 2 things are simply lack of experience in the system and in the SEC.

Go back and double check everything above. On paper, you beat LSU and Memphis. When you understand why you didn't, you understand why your admin pick Leach.

That OL has come together. They are giving him a lot of time and at some point, the deep stuff .. he's going to see.

Our biggest problem is the quarterback. Rogers has no confidence and is scared, plays scared, can't see the field, or make the necessary throws all the time. Leach went too far hoping that he'd be Gardner Minshew II. He may have grown up with Minshew but they just aren't the same. Until a qb gets ready or transfers in this offense will never have a chance. It's poorly advertised in the hands of Will Rogers. Who should be playing at Delta St.

Leach just isnt a good coach. I said it when Gamecock fans wanted him, and when State fans thought they got a good one. He wins a few but isnt going to get your program to a better place

The Mike Leach pattern (based on history at TTU and WSU):

Year 1: Unexplainable wins
Year 2: Unexplainable losses
Year 3: "Where did these guys come from?"

Hoping the third doesn't happen at State for obvious reasons, but there is a pattern.

State's record has nothing to do with Mike Leach experiment.

The mistakes are like watching JH kids in a rainstorm. Players are 100% responsible for every outcome including Memphis.

How in the hell did State out play us.

We never trailed and State passing dinks and dunks were basically running plays.

Without dropped passes, we would have hung another 20 points on State.
