No. 2 Alabama Softball Shuts Out Southern Utah 11-0 in Season Opener

Freshman Megan Bloodworth hits two home runs in her Crimson Tide debut

TUCSON, Ariz. – Alabama softball shut out Southern Utah, 11-0, in its 2022 season opener at the Candrea Classic.

Alabama (1-0) made an early statement in its season opener over Southern Utah (0-2), scoring eight runs in the first inning including RBIs from transfers Ally Shipman and Ashley Prange and a grand slam from Megan Bloodworth in their Crimson Tide debuts. The grand slam was the first of two home runs on the day for Bloodworth and Shipman added her own solo shot later in the fourth. Seven different players earned a hit, including multi-hit days from Shipman, Prange, Bloodworth and Jenna Johnson, with all 16 position players seeing time in the game. Jaala Torrence (1-0) earned the complete-game win in the circle, allowing just one hit while strikeout out a career-best nine.
