Bobby Bowden a great dude and coach, but he isn’t above Tom Osborne. Tom Osborne has a much better winning percentage, more national championships, and more conference championships in a lesser time frame. Osborne also did it at Nebraska with absolutely no in-state talent or much around him (although this was not as big of a deal then as it is today) Bobby was in Florida a massive hotbed. You could probably put him above all the other guys you mentioned like Paterno, Spurrier, etc. but Bobby was not as good as Osborne. Just coached for a longer time period.

You realize Nebraska was already an elite program when Osborne got there and FSU was a complete nobody when Bowden took that job? Nebraska had won b2b national titles just a year before Osborne was hired. Everything FSU has become is 100% because of Bowden. He built them into a powerhouse from the ground up

Both programs had their advantages back then. Nebraska was ahead of the game with their "S&C" program (see juicing) and "walk on" program (hard to figure a poor kid from South Carolina like IM Hipp can go all the way to Nebraska to walk-on but whatever) After Nebraska's S&C "advantage" was negated in the 80's they lost like 8 bowls games in a row.His mid 90's teams took partial qualifiers while most everybody else couldn't and the guys he signed weren't exactly model citizens.

Tom Osborne didn’t take a winless womans college and turn them into a dynasty. Bobby >>>>>> Osborne by a great, great distance

FSU sure beat Nebraska enough to qualify. Ask Osborne about that 2 point attempt? UGH!!

This is just silly. Tom Osborne is one of the greatest coaches in Nebraska history. Bobby Bowden IS Florida State football. He built FSU essentially from scratch into a perineal powerhouse in the running for the National championship every year for decades. Hell FSU was a girls school less than 30 years prior to his arrival. They were the homecoming opponent on other teams schedule. It’s hard to imagine anyone in history doing more for a single sports program than Bobby Bowden did for FSU.
