This.

The 80s was the worst decade for American cars of all time. Several American legendary lines of cars were destroyed in the name of "economical" to compete with the Japanese.

We had a ‘78 or ‘79 Monte Carlo - the only new car my parents ever bought. I remember two or three times being stuck on the side of the road on hot summer days. What a piece of trash that car was.

They lost a lot of customers to foreign brands because of the late ‘70s and ‘80s American cars they produced. Still paying the price for it even though American cars are reliable now.
