If Kirby coached at a 2nd or 3rd tier SEC school like:

Ole Miss
Miss St
Arkansas
South Carolina
Tennessee
Mizzou
Vandy

or any other school in any other conference ...

How would he realistically do?

He almost went to South Carolina, so, he would have the most talented 8 and 4 team in the East.

Amazing that such à shitty coach has so many of his assts that are hired to be HC's elsewhere.

Wonder why ?

he's a mediocre coach but he's at a dormant program. UGA is like Tennessee and Nebraska. You can't win a title there anymore.

there is a little troll in this. UGA was one pass away from winning it in 2017

If we are being honest, how many schools on this list would trade their current coach for Kirby? Not Arkansas, not Missouri, and maybe not Vandy

He'd do about as well as Saban did at Michigan St.

So you're telling me those schools don't want to consistently pull in top three recruiting classes, win SEC Championships, win a rose bowl and come within one play of a national championship? Hmm...

How much is this hypothetical school willing to spend on "recruiting"?

UGA is spending more than anyone.

I've no doubt with a healthy recruiting budget Smart would improve any program. But that'll only take you so far.

He's not like Hugh Freeze, with the imagination to take advantage of top talent.

I’m saying that’s unrealistic expectations to have on Kirby at those schools, Kirby at Vandy cannot recruit Top 3 classes bc Vandy is just behind on resources, boosters are smaller, stricter admissions, his ceiling is turning them into ND

Would he be a good coach there? Could he have like an undefeated season at a Vandy? Would take a miracle imo, but can he have an undefeated season at Georgia? that’s not only realistic but an expectation, location matters

Yea I seem to remember Hugh Freeze doing something at Ole Miss a few years ago...can't quite remember what it is.

Okay... so let's take the same example. What does Saban do at Vandy? Top 3 classes and undefeated season or basically also hit the same ceiling at that school.

Kirby isn't Saban, but to argue that Kirby is only as good as the school he's at is kind of silly as well. Most coaches would be handcuffed at a good portion of the schools listed, simply because they are generally inferior athletic programs to the top of the conference at present.

They would now of course. But if he coached their shitty program, how far would they really go? He would be an 8-4 coach.

The better question would be, could he have won a Natty at LSU?
