What happened the last time the Vols opened up their season against Syracuse?

A debilitating, program-destroying loss to Saban in the SEC title game.

BUT, what happened the second-to-last time the Vols opened their season against Syracuse?

Tennessee will be closing in on 30 years since 1998.

So glad we are out of the neutral site game business after this season.

Neutral site games have been good for the Tide. Get paid around 5 million to play in one every year and get to kick a power 5 teams arse.

It’s simple economics and viewer exhaustion as to why the kickoff games are going to scale back. But he’s gonna die on that hill anyway.

What a weird hill to die on as well...

It’s awesome when you don’t care which football field you play on, you just know you’re about to whip somebody’s arse.

Ah, Roll Tide baby.

Terrible matchup, but no worse than the 2023 game. And why is the 2023 game a crappy ACC matchup?

The FSU/LSU one is kind of strange - why are they doing New Orleans/Orlando instead of home and home? I assume money, but I wonder what the details of that are.

Notre Dame/Wisconsin had the coolest one I can think of. It was going to be ND @ Wisc in Lambeau and then Wisc @ ND in Soldier Field. Alas, the game last year in Lambeau was canceled. That would have been one of the better non conference settings in quite some time.

Pretty sure 45% of the Georgia fanbase drove themselves into crippling debt during the 2017 run, so I can't imagine what Alabama fans have had to put up with, financially, during the Saban era

Eventually at some point it turned into, "Holy shite, Glendale?!"

Yep, junior better crack the books and earn an academic scholarship because his college fund is pert near depleted!

It’s just classic Bama fan to say, “No more neutral site games for Bama, sounds like they’re dying out.”

Why did you say this?

Yep, Georgia is just about the only school doing that. And it's because they know Georgia Tech is the equivalent of an American opponent in terms of how it helps them, so they need 2 real P5 opponents in addition to them.

It may still be around, it just won’t be teams that matter.

This is what college football should be like.

Fans want to see big matchups.

You can’t be afraid to play anyone and with the expanded playoffs on the way, you won’t have to go undefeated to get in.

Give me early matchups vs teams you never play or rarely play.
