To be fair, TAF is where the money is for a settlement

The complaint says the new defendants committed multiple related acts of fraud, including but not limited to solicitations of donations from national and international sources through TAF, which then used the funds to pay LSU employees and implement a sexual misconduct reporting scheme designed to keep complaints within the athletic department, away from LSU’s Title IX office. Read the full story.

That will be very hard to prove. But, if it can be proved, is quite a serious charge. I’ll agree with the previous poster who said they’re just throwing shite at the wall to see what will stick. AT least, that’s what it seems like at this point.

Name as many defendants as possible and especially the purse strings, see what $ and/or person will be squeezed out

If they are just throwing out allegations to see what sticks, that is a hell of an allegation to put out there.

Who would have thought a college football coach who likes to hang out with random strange and take pictures with them in bed would have problems with this kind of stuff.

Not saying it can be proven, but this is not some nebulous “throw shite against the wall” accusation.

This is a quite specific charge.

It’s never RICO.

So it’s probably good that they have resorted to this tactic. Good chance it means they have nothing else:

It’s Never RICO

I’d guess the next step in this progression is to go after individual TAF donors.

Civil RICO is very difficult to prove. There are lots of elements that must be proven, and it is much more complicated than a traditional fraud case. But the attraction is treble damages and attorneys fees for the plaintiff, if successful at trial. Some plaintiffs’ attorneys use RICO allegations to up the ante to push for a higher settlement, but the strategy can backfire because it involves accusing the defendant of crimes, and some defendants would rather fight such accusations than settle.
