How do you determine the champion of a 14 team conference without a championship game?
Don’t say something stupid like make all conferences 10 teams, the SEC isn’t kicking 4 teams out.
And 16 or 17 games is too many, it’s not just some excuse. Adding a bunch of 2 or 3 loss and/or G5 teams that have no chance of winning to the playoff is ridiculous.

You can build in enough tiebreakers that it would work itself out most years. I can only think of a few years in which there wouldn't have been a "regular season champ" since the SECCG was introduced.
