I went to a Jimmy Buffett concert in the MSU basketball arena in 1979. Had to drive to the triangle to get beer and dodge the road blocks on the way back.
They had package stores but only sold hard liquor, I found that weird. We stayed with a friend who was attending the forestry program there who was renting a trailer in one of the fine trailer parks.
Best I remember I had a blast and my friend's degree landed him a great job in Florida.
Good times don't necessarily require aesthetically pleasing surroundings.

With the exception of Hwy 12, Starkville can hold it's own with at least half the SEC in aesthetics. The town actually borders Noxubee Wildlife Refuge, which is 50,000 acres of woodlands, marshes, lakes and trails. It's also just up the road from portions of Tombigbee Nat'l Forest. If you like nature, it's the place to he.
