Two areas: the area between Culloden, Georgia in southwestern Monroe County and Yatesville in eastern Upson County. Also, the area along the Virginia-West Virginia border from Bath County Virginia, Covington, Virginia, and Lewisburg, West Virginia. I'll give an honorable mention to the entire peninsula that Bayou Lafourche traverses in Louisiana.

Don't make that run in the middle of the night baw.. You are rolling through 2 of the scariest counties in the state. Just saying.. Clay County.. A strong snake handling third... Don't break down

That’s true. Really if your heading south of I-16 into Florida through any route it could qualify

Somewhat related to that sentiment, the Golden Isles Pkwy from Lumber City on into Brunwick isn’t as country as others mentioned but it’s pretty sparse for a time. Always wanted to kayak the Altamaha into Darien; heard it’s a neat experience

The stretch between Kingsville, TX and the Valley. No towns for 60 miles - just ranches. Home to poisonous critters, things with thorns the size of Dallas, and insects. It is best seen with the cruise set to 80.

I got a great college buddy that’s from Dublin. There is literally nothing in Dublin. It’s a waste of good space.

Florida gets a reputation for not being genuinely southern but the Panhandle is the real deal.

Yep. Especially the interior.

It does. Especially from Beckley south and west to the Virginia and Kentucky lines.

Ha! I just drove through Culloden(from Griffin)last w/e. Went down to Dickey's and bought some strawberries and strawberry ice cream.

You are right, though. There is NOTHING on that stretch of Hwy.74

Been there many times. Hazard, Kentucky people will literally murder you for stopping to buy a 8 ounce chocolate milk at the convenience store, because you ain't from there

No thanks
Nope, some of the best people on the planet. Also been there many times myself and some of the most friendly folk you can find. Of course I'm from Blount County Alabama so maybe we just understood each other?

Did you turn down the clear liquid in a mason jar or refuse a meal?

Took the words right out of my mouth.

The loneliest 165 stretch of road you'll ever travel. Aside from Dublin there is nothing.

The Missouri Bootheel may seem southern to you yankee fricks who are used to calling it "pop" and eating at Culver's, but it ain't southern compared to anywhere in Alabama bruh

In 96, I was visiting friends in Huntington, WV. They took me to a Walmart parking lot around 11:45pm one night and said “watch what happens at midnight”. Sure enough, starting just after midnight, dozens of people started emerging from the woods on the far side of the parking lot and heading for the store.

Seeing all those hillbillies shamble out of the forest to shop at Walmart in the middle of the night is one of the most surreal experiences I’ve had.

Madrid Bend. Head north out of Tiptonville Tn and cross the state line into Kentucky. They grow cotton, soybeans, corn and empty spaces. It is an exclave of Kentucky that you can only reach from Tennessee.

I live about 30 miles east of Beckley and believe you me, it most definitely is The South. Just an aside, I used to live within driving distance of the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, and I saw more West Virginians there than from anyplace else, and if you weren't educated about Stone Wall being from what is now West By God Virginia, then they'd damn sure educate you. lol

I didn't realize Dickeys was doing the strawberry thing now. I've been there so many times over the years. Everytime I come home during the summer I make damn sure I get there. BTW, Crawford County could easily make our list here. I went to elementary school in Milner and went to high school at Mary Persons, so I'm that area through and through. Only thing I miss here in Virginia right now is good hs football. Ain't no comparison to were we are from.
