That’s why I like the midrange with a capable player. It can really separate the Allstars from the superstars.

KD, Kyrie, Luka, LeBron, etc. can all hit that pull up J from 12-17 and sometimes it’s nearly impossible to stop them when they are hot.

If Miller gets hot and is making 60% from midrange one game, how do you defend the offense? Odds are a few games a year he will as he’s done it through his high school career.

The mid-range thing isn't all math, because some guys are more comfortable pulling up off the dribble from there, shooting it in transition, etc, but the pure math is pretty simple on the sliding scale of what you gotta do for the shot to be efficient enough to shoot it.

If you are a 40% 3-pt shooter, you need to shoot 60% from mid-range for it to be efficient (in reality just bomb 3s please).

If you are a 35% 3-pt shooter, you need to shoot 53% from mid-range for it to be efficient.

If you are a 33% 3-pt shooter, you need to shoot 50% from mid-range for it to be efficient.

I'd guess if Miller ends up being a guy who shoots around 50% on that shot and is super comfortable with it he'll be given free reign to do so. I absolutely agree that there is an additional aspect to it that, if a guy is comfortable and consistent with it, that stresses the defense much, much more when they feel the pressure to defend all 3 levels of the half-court.

Luka and LeBron aren’t the best mid-range shooters. They only take it to keep defenses honest.
