I just can’t imagine Nelson coming here, but that does raise my brow a bit. Knowing the name of the insider would be helpful, otherwise “reliable insider” could just be a regular caller into the Paul Finebaum show

Why cant you imagine him coming here? We arent good enough to get Grant Nelson?

The guy who is gonna be the number 2 pick in the NBA draft played for us last year.

It doesn’t have anything to do with not being good enough, Arkansas’ 11th hour involvement in his recruiting, and his dad talking about how great of people we are lead me to believe he’s Arkansas bound.

Was told he enjoyed the visit at Bama but remains open, so yes Arkansas is still in it. GN expected to arrive late afternoon on Thursday. I'm told his family likes Arkansas more, but opportunity and NIL combo will carry the decision. We shall see.

Definitely not the vibe his interview with BOL showed.

quote:

I'm told 'Bama has more money on the table on this one, and as most know by now he had a strong favorable impression following his visit there. How significant a difference in the $$$? I don't know, but if it was signifcant I'm not sure he would not have just committed to 'Bama and skipped the Arkansas visit. As I mentioned in my post last night, he's expected to arrive in Fayetteville late this afternoon (he has a LONG travel day today, left Tuscaloosa around 9ish this morning).

If we were really giving even a comparable NIL offer, he would have already committed by now. Like Watts has mentioned, I don't think this information of our offer would have been leaked before he arrived for the Arkansas visit.

quote:

IMO, he's going to need to be blown away on his Arkansas visit. I have no doubt that it will be advantage Hogs when comparing Arkansas' practice to 'Bama's, and comparing the presentation Muss and staff will have regarding how they will use him, help him improve, help him understand expectations of a pro, etc., to what 'Bama showed him. Both programs can boast the exposure aspect of this (Tide play a tougher non-con with more big national-stage games, but Hogs have been better in NCAAT with more games and big-stage tilts in postseason). Bama actually has a few more NBA 1st-round draft picks during both coaches' tenures, but relative to transfers it's not been a positive factor for either school. Again, I was told the family favored the Hogs in what they liked coming into the visits, for what that's worth.

I think Arkansas is in this, but I think the Hogs have at least a little bit of ground to make up based on all the feedback I've gotten to the point of making this post.

Practice facilities aren't where we lack; it's Coleman Coliseum that is the issue. And absolutely LOL at that last point. It's the exact opposite from what his dad said about the visit, and everyone and their mother knows Alabama's system is tailor-made for what Nelson was told that he needed to show NBA scouts. Between all the inaccuracies, I don't think this guy (whoever he is) knows ANY inside information.

I understand. Going against Arkansas will make anyone a little nervous, they have a huge bball payroll. Everything points to us though as of now imo, especially with the news of Baye Fall enrolling there next week.

Bama runs a NBA style offense.

Coach Oats allows them to play with FREEDOM.

Coach Oats creates opportunities for guys to showcase their full bag of skills.

Coach Oats and company develop guys extremely well in his system.

Who wouldn't want to play for Coach Oats?

It definitely matches a formula.

Yeah I don't think it's all that crazy to have some serious doubts about this one. When the last visit is to a place throwing the bag around like candy at Halloween you really have to put a damper on your expectations. That doesn't mean we won't end up signing him, but there is a reason he took this visit and it has very little to do with basketball given their roster situation and general playing style.

What i think it funny is that Arkansas fans constantly bring up his NBA pedigree and experience. He was a NBA coach for 3 seasons with 2 different teams, the last one being 15+ years ago. The league is nothing like it was in the 00s. And Oats has actually put more guys in the NBA with earlier picks.

My nervousness stemmed from this being a unique situation. It's a guy tailor made for our system, we had an unexpected loss at a key position with no depth, and then losing the #1-2 player in country and suddenly having a huge arse bag at the last minute and a single roster spot to spend it on. And the difference in us getting him vs them getting him is is still having any deep tournament hopes when the season starts this fall. The difference between signing a luxury vs a necessity has my blood pressure up a little. If it were still May, it's a completely different story.

Jordan Brown was a 4/5-star McDonald’s All-American in 2018.

May recall that Louisiana played Tennessee in the first round of the NCAAT this season (UT won 58-55).

Brown had 16 points and 7 rebounds in that one.

We still have some fans that are surprised when we land certain elite out of state football recruits. Alabama. The top football program of the current era and in the history of the sport. And after 6 NCs in 12 years and #1 recruiting class after #1 recruiting class, some people still act surprised. That baffles me.
