I think the problem this season just boiled down to lack of defensive athleticism and poor 3pt shooting. A lot of times in the crunch situations we broke down defensively and then on the offensive end the defense just let us shoot the 3 because the odds were bad that we’d hit it.

Looks like he would be a back up.
.

This year technically JD was a back up to JQ, but he eventually started and got more minutes as the season went on. I would suspect Bradley starts, but no point guard needs to play 40 minutes as fast as we want to play, and Oats has said plenty that he doesn't mind playing two points - which he did last year. Look at Llewelyn's point of view also. Ivy League schools do not allow more than 4 scholarship years, so he has to go somewhere. With the SEC/ ESPN tv exposure, he will have better exposure, and will get to play on a really good team - in warm weather. He is from Canada so somebody Hodgson has already known. Trust the coaches.

We really do love our Canadians around here.

And not to jinx anything or predict anything, but there always seems to be a good Canadian or two every year that makes a splash in the NBA, so maybe it’s him.

Yeah, which I think is the real disconnect for a lot of people. Mid-range shots are fine if you're a good enough player to make them consistently. Just showing a willingness to take them does absolutely nothing to stress a defense if you only knock down 1 out of 3. They just aren't going to change anything they're doing to stop you from making 1/3 of any kind of 2pt attempt. If you're knocking down more than half of them then they're going to pay attention to it, but there just aren't many players who can do that and most of them are also elite 3pt shooters.

Likely he is still there. School is back in session. He could have seen basketball things yesterday when he came in, but as a Princeton graduate, he might want to meet some people in whatever graduate program he enters. Llewelyn though was a Top 100 player, so no doubt he is looking to play some before he goes to regular work. Hope we get him.

Yes, I hope we snatch him right now before anybody else can get their hands on him.

I want us to get a defender out of the portal that will defend like Will Smith does with his openly cheating wife.

You mean someone that will make a weak attempt at pretending to do something aggressive?

Pretty sure we had that a lot this year.

As long as the staff is confident in the defensive abilities of the returning guys plus the incoming freshmen, I love the idea of bringing in a guy like Reeves who is just an offensive bucket getter. As we've seen in this tournament, you can NEVER have enough guys who can get baskets when the shot clock is winding down or the other team is disrupting what you are doing on offense. Reeves absolutely looks like that type of guy.

Yeah, I need him to go ahead and disappoint us. I think he'd be up there as the best NCAA transfer we've ever landed.

Looking at Reeves, he reminds me of Petty. Petty was a little stronger as a defender and rebounder but Reeves defensive positioning on and off ball looks fine. Reeves handles the ball better than Petty allowing him to get to the rim more. That gives him a little more space on the perimeter for his shot.
Illinois St looks like they had similar defensive issues as us this season. They often got overextended in man defense allowing the lane drive or single post pass without help. Reeves typically guarded the deep wing 3-4 position player; so, he would likely not guard the opposing PG which is fine. His height does allow him to switch in man though.
Illinois St had a bad season with Reeves carrying a lot of the load offensively. I think he is a good fit for our team, but wouldn't look for him to be THE guy night in and out like he was at ISU (which is fine too). The only thing is that I'm not sure he's going to be the strong willed leader that some are wanting to get in the portal. Feel like we would still need to find that piece of the puzzle.
Overall, a really nice pick up if we get him.

KD, Kyrie, Luka, LeBron, etc. can all hit that pull up J from 12-17 and sometimes it’s nearly impossible to stop them when they are hot.

Luka and LeBron aren’t the best mid-range shooters. They only take it to keep defenses honest.

Idk what highlights i just watched because he must not have had handles either because he struggled getting past defenders.

Well I’ll defer to you on that because I haven’t watched his film. If he straight up can’t beat his defender in any way then I don’t want him.

One thing that has me worried about the team going forward is what happened to guys like Ellis and Gary. They didn’t have the same “Dawg” mentality they seemed to have last season.

I don’t agree with this. Ellis was clutch and Gary basically carried us against Baylor with his hustle.

Looks like Jay Barker's daughter is transferring to Alabama from Georgia

Started all 31 games for UGA last year as a sophomore. 7.7 PPG, 31% 3PT, 73 FT%.

BOL talk is that Llewelyn is a take and that he is very interested in coming here, but that theres a name we’re waiting on to hit the portal that’s a guard and the interest will be mutual immediately.

It felt like a lot of reaching and talking out the arse, but a few people said the exact same thing he said and that they had heard the same, so who knows.

As far as Llewellyn:

He's a good ball handler and shooter, but it's harder to get a read on him due the system he plays in. He's not always the primary ball handler in their system and often finds him self on the wing. His assist to turnover ratio is the same as JQ from this season but his assist numbers aren't as high as you might want in a typical PG. He would definitely be an upgrade defensively and as a rebounder which is nice.
He doesn't get to the line as much as we would want but I believe that has more to do with the Princeton system relying more on spacing and cutting rather than the dribble drive. He would be asked to get into the lane more here but feel he has the athleticism to do it.

Like Reeves, I don't see him as an every game top scorer but think he would definitely help our backcourt.

My only concern is his 3pt shooting on the road or in neutral site games. He's 22-71 from 3pt in those games against teams with a combined record of 105-111 at the time they played them. He can have some of those bad Shack games from 3pt but he might be able to offset some of that with getting to the rim better than Shack.

I do like his toughness and feel he should be a defensive upgrade and help our backcourt depth.

Yea - after watching Llewellyn's highlights and looking at his advanced stats, I wonder if the idea with him is to bring him in to be a utility guy. Sometimes the only PG on the floor, sometimes a combo guard on the floor with Bradley, etc. He doesn't scream "pure point guard" to me watching him play, but he has nice length and seems to defend pretty well and be a nice creator.

But that, of course, would make me wonder if we are still waiting on JD possibly returning or if we end up chasing another pure PG transfer, or if we are comfortable with the 2 of them even if Llewellyn is less pure PG and more combo.

Looking back at the guards we recruited heavily in the last three classes, I don't really see any guys who are in situations where transferring would make any sense and have been good enough college players to justify holding a roster spot for. I am assuming that immediate mutual interest means it's a guy the staff has a pre-existing relationship with.

Is there maybe someone I'm missing?
