The Cal to Texas thing legitimately makes no sense to me. In a world of weird coaching rumors, that one stands out.
The only way Cal goes to Texas is if he feels like he's hit a wall at Kentucky, doesn't feel like people appreciate him anymore and just wants to start over.
And, I mean, I could kind of see all of that.

My point was that Nebraska football and Indiana basketball can owe a lot of their postseason/championship success to two head coaches over a 40-50 year period respectively. Clearly Indiana has remained more relevant. I just see a lot of similarities. But it probably is more likely
to see a renaissance at Indiana basketball versus Nebraska football.

Nothing says Kentucky like paying your head coach 86 mil and giving him a lifetime contract to boot and now they want to burn his house down before the ink dries. "Puckered up" don't began to tell their story.

You’ve got to be kidding. Why would Texas offer the job to Calipari? Dude is on the downside of his career hence the 6 win season. They won’t offer him. He is washed up. Sorry Kentucky.

Yea - Indiana can certainly be good again quickly. I don't think it has the allure to folks from outside the state of Indiana that some of the other blue bloods do on a national scale. The built in advantages of walking around at a Nike event in Vegas with "Indiana" on your chest aren't the same as the top of the line blue bloods, IMHO.
Kentucky, North Carolina and Kansas are top of the line, elite jobs. Duke would be too, but it's different being a small private school and it's entire run has been with one coach there, so it'd be a unique situation. Indiana and UCLA have gone through coaches since their glory days that have been good, bad and average, but none of them great. There doesn't seem to be anything holding them back, but they just haven't found the right guy - and they've also struck out on their targets in searches.

If Oats leaves, he leaves. I couldn't care less.

Yes, the guy who doesn't care about basketball doesn't care about the coach leaving.
I mean, no shite.

At the very least, the basketball team being decent helps with football recruiting. I don't think we get Kool-aid McKinstry if it wasn't for the basketball program being above par.

Sounds pretty stupid not to care about Oats leaving then, I guess

Why on Earth would Cal leave Kentucky for Texas? That doesn't even make sense

OP WTF have you been smoking.

Don't universities always end up on probation when he leaves? Why would someone want to follow him?
Posted on 3/26/21 at 11:28 am to WildcatMike
I'd be shocked if Texas isn't going after Beard again before Cal

Why wouldn't Texas just go after Oats?
I'm pretty sure they got Smart while Alabama was pursuing him.

I mean they can but they won't get him
The Calipari thing is a rumor because there are rumblings of discontent at Kentucky from fans, Cal has been kind of prickly about it, he's been there a while now, Texas would be a fresh start etc etc etc. Calipari isn't leaving Kentucky for Texas under normal, happy circumstances. Ever.
