Except the topic was the last 20 years. Hallman was early 90s.

For LSU any answer other than Curley Hallman is wrong

An old friend of mine was deep in the LSU booster program at the time and he told me a story about how Curly alienated players from day one. He's passed away now but loved Curly as a hire initially... not so much after a couple of years. He thought that Curly had written a couple of pages in the book on how to beat Alabama, and thus was a great hire.

He said that Curly had an initial team meeting to meet the players already on the team. At which he told the players... "Now, one thing I can't tolerate on any of my teams is a thief. Unfortunately, I look around my new locker room and I see a lot of players with their mama's earrings in one ear. I refuse to believe that many players are thieves on my team, so maybe you boys should stick those BORROWED earrings in an envelope and send them back to your mama in the mail. I don't want to see them around here any more."

I'm sure my buddy paraphrased a bit, and maybe me, too... after recollecting after all these years. but I have no reason to totally disbelieve him.
