True. Dubose wasn’t well liked then 1999 happened and it bought him more time. He couldn’t be gone fast enough

DuBose was literally one game away from getting fired. After the incident with his secretary in the offseason, there were calls for his resignation. After Alabama lost to Louisiana Tech in the third game of the season, the athletic director (Bob Bockrath) resigned and many people figured that DuBose would either follow suit or be fired by the man who replaced Bockrath (Mal Moore). The scuttlebutt was that had Alabama lost to Florida in the Swamp DuBose would have been fired the following day. Against all odds, DuBose beat Florida on the road and ended up going on a run that saw us win the SEC Championship and reach the Orange Bowl.
