Clemson is a great team, but they also benefit from - by far - the easiest path to the playoffs. It's not just that the ACC is bad; they literally are miles away from Clemson in terms of accumulated talent.

Bama, OTOH, while more talented doesn't have that "miles ahead" benefit. Sure, against some teams, but not the Georgias, LSUs or Floridas of the conference.

Ohio State is also going to be up there for the foreseeable future. The B1G is a mess outside of the top spot, despite how often they try and pump up the other teams.
