Mathis looked no more rattled than Bennett did in the second half yesterday. Yes, it was Bama, but that was Mathis' first 4 drives in CFB.

I'll continue to maintain he'll end up a better player than Bennett within his first handful of starts - wherever they happen to come.

Frankly, I do not think we are playing to Bennett’s strengths as much as we could. I think Bennett can win games for us. It will be harder for him to do it with a 5 and 7 step drop. The pass rushers were taking up passing lanes as much as they were putting pressure on. The way to counter that is with roll outs, misdirection, play action, and blocking techniques that make it harder for them to get paws up. Then the defense will have to adjust to that. I’d also like to see him keep it more on the RO and have some run pass options with that aspect of the game. I think we have them in the book, but we seem to not be using them enough. We actually did it on the first play of the game and got positive yards. Those work better in the 2nd half when the Defense is tired and has been hammered in the A gap like we were doing pretty well.

There could be reasons why we don’t do this that we are not aware of that make perfect sense. With that said, I don’t think we started out this season thinking Bennett would be the guy. Hopefully the off week will give them some time of put in some more wrinkles that worrk with his skill sett
