No, it’s not about to get real because as you see, people still won’t take the basic necessary precautions to get this thing under control. They will blame politics, the guvmint, or aliens but they won’t adhere to a few simple rules. And even if they don’t work as some insist, so what? If it gives everyone a sense of security and allows things to continue normally, why don’t you just play along? It never ceases to amaze me how self-absorbed some are.

Agreed. I am neighbor and friends with someone on a P5 staff here where I live. They have the complete support of the state and local government to have football and other fall sports this fall as long as they can provide safety protocols for the virus. Nothing major other then require mask and reduce attendance to allow for social distancing. The local and state government realizes how much revenue will be lost if fall sports, especially football and now with alcohol sales, if canceled. Hell I live 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 35 minutes from the stadiums of 3 P5 programs. But now that they continue to see local people and people outside the area ignore these protocols the concern for liability is growing.

Not sure why so many tin foil hat wearers have an issue with something so simple of a request.

It feels a little like the last vestige of sociability is on display here. You might not always get regular folks together on most political or even social issues but when it came to emergencies and tragedies that has never really been the case until now. COVID is right there with any Tornado, Hurricane, Tsunami, Earthquake, and what hasn't happened is chilling as a society.

With the pressure on, we actually became more divided politically, philosophically, and most of all, emotionally. Absolutely NO agreement on the simplest request for the greater good. As you alluded to, even if it would have meant marginal success with the mask, it, at least, would have shown some spirit of unity and cooperation to beat this thing.

The new normal is getting thrown around quite a bit these days, but this new normal is about as eye-opening as it gets and just as disappointing for everyone.
