Not exactly related but why were their divisions in SEC basketball back in the day, and what was the reason they were done away with?

Good question. Not sure why, but it makes more sense especially in a year like this one.

Because everyone could play everyone else at least once to determine conference seeding without a division.

Also, the SEC was getting routinely fricked with the SEC tournament set up with divisions when it came to NCAA seeding. Stansbury and State was the only one to vote against abolishing the basketball divisions.
