When my grandfather passed away, Strom called my grandmother and spoke to her for 15 minutes after the funeral. He was a master of constituent service and got a higher percentage of the black vote than any Republican today because of it.

I say rename whatever buildings you would like, but if I was the son or grandson of the person that gave the money for the building so it could be named for them, I would demand the money back with interest. It probably would not get anywhere but the threat of a lawsuit might just cause a settlement.

The genius of Strom on the personal level was that he LOVED people (sometimes too much lol). He was a true gentleman and a gifted conversationalist. He would have been the best insurance salesman in history. He told me a long story about his Mother having Louisiana family roots that I was never able to verify. That he was "on the wrong side of history" speaks to the state of The Democratic Party of Strom's youth that wanted to preserve slavery, established Jim Crow, founded the KKK, etc. That he supported Democratic Party policies like that is just what it meant to be a Democrat of his era. You know, like Robert Byrd, Former KKK leader, Democratic Senate Majority leader less than a generation ago. Half of West Virginia is named after him.
