with the serious talent UGA produces and it's resources, this is laughable

I’m genuinely shocked by these. I would have bet money they were #1 more recently than this.

Kentucky was robbed in 1950, IMHO.

We are ranked #1 at some point during the season every year.

I sort of remember this but it feels like this must have been a dream or alternate reality.

The AP poll hasn't been relevant since 2004.

Maybe so. But it’s still the best barometer, collectively for the game since 1936.

Personally, I enjoy the AP poll statistics.

They spent multiple weeks at #1. Before losing to Alabama in November.

Last time those schools ranked in top 5:
LSU 2019
Georgia 2019
Alabama 2019
Auburn 2017
Mississippi State 2014
Missouri 2013
Florida 2012

Missing anyone from 2012?

Even as a State fan I agree that it didn't feel real, and it lasted over a month. Also didn't help matters that as soon as they got the number one ranking they started fading. Struggled to beat Kentucky and Arkansas teams that weren't very good and then wet the bed against Bama and Ole Miss.

I was only posting the schools that were used in the guys argument to justify why someone didn't post the Top 7 and only posted top 6 purposely leaving Missouri out.

There just aren't enough games in cfb for this to reliably sort itself out. theres only 2 types of schools that get to #1 in football, national champions and bluebloods who are regarded as currently strong. every once and awhile you get a year where a team that doesnt fit that bill gets to #1 in a poll, but its so rare. a team can look better and be more deserving of 1 votes but theyll never get to #1 until the blueblood favored in the preseason actually loses. its only getting worse too. Id bet theres fewer than 15 teams that have been ranked #1 in the past decade.

That would be a winning bet good sir.

There’s been 11 different teams ranked #1 since 2010.

Alabama - 83 weeks
LSU - 19
Clemson - 14
Ohio St - 12
Florida St - 12
Oregon - 8
Mississippi St - 5
Oklahoma - 4
Notre Dame - 3
Auburn - 2
USC - 1

Actually agree with you here. I dislike preseason polls for this reason.

It's an interesting thing to learn, but I don't think it can be taken as a fair measure of whether a school has really been the best at a given moment of a season, Obviously its not something that gets admitted by pundits because the goal is to be national champion, not national champion momentary frontrunner, but there is clearly a glass ceiling to being number 1. a non traditional power can have the best team in the country and also not get a single #1 vote if none of the preaseason top 5 bluebloods haven't lost a game yet.

We were ranked preseason #1 by Sporting News in 1996.

Then proceeded to lose to USL with 8 turnovers.
