The End of College Football As We Know It

Is it just me or does it feel like covid-19 is the beginning of the end? I believe SOME players deserve to be paid (Cam Newton, Joe Burrow types). I don't agree with Walk-Ons and 3rd string players getting paid though. Once the players keep gaining more rights, more issues will arise and cause internal disfunction within Athletic Departments. As an Ole Miss fan, I obviously hate the NCAA. But I do see their logic that paying amateur athletes will ruin college football. Do you care more about enjoying the game like we always have or having the spirit/attitude of college football become non-existent? There's a reason why college football is better than the NFL.

COVID-19 will change many things.
That’s the story of humankind.
I don’t disagree that cfb will experience changes.
Some will be for the better; others won’t.
Adapt, improvise, and overcome.

All I’ll say is, the last thing I want in college football is an Antonio Brown, you know a guy who’s thinks he’s entitled and is always worth more money than he’s offered. That’s what I really hate about the NFL and I fear that 19-22 year olds would act the same way. Money corrupts people, especially young people.

First, frick the NCAA.
Second, the kids should be compensated in some manner more than what is currently allowed by the NCAA.
Finally, IMO the elephant in the room for CFB is the NFL. They use CFB as it's farm system, so as long as the NFL and their owners (who the majority are billionaires) like that arrangement, CFB will exist pretty much as we know it.

It's not just you. It does feel like college athletics has been trending that way for a while now, even before COVID, and I don't like what it could be become.

Covid will pass, cfb will be here forever. Too much money and jobs involved to change too much.

Are you talking about covid or about paying players? You seem confused

exactly how long is the list of people/organizations that Ole Miss hates? A few hundred pages worth?

Somehow I think we will be okay.
The Pandemic And College Football: A Look Back At The 1918 Season
This photo is of an undetermined Georgia Tech home game during the 1918 season. The photo was taken by Georgia Tech student Thomas Carter, who would receive a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the 1920s. The photo was provided by Georgia Tech alumnus Andy McNeil. The possibility of holding some form of the 2020 college football season during a pandemic has sent folks scurrying to research the 1918 season.
That's when the Spanish Flu outbreak ravaged the World. The flu, which came in multiple waves from 1918-1919, killed more than 675,000 in the United States.

If like another thread suggested, a star player could make millions, why would they bother to go to class?

Soccer, the real football, is looming on the horizon ready to take its rightful spot as the best sport. College football is imploding. The NFL is boring.
Soccer will become the king of sports by mid-century.

The reason college football is different from the nfl isn't bc the players aren't getting paid. It's bc college players actually choose where they want to go play football and usually they represent their home state school. The players for LSU play for Louisiana we a whole and represent this state with pride. It's not like that in the nfl where u will see players jump ship to get more money and not really give a shite about the communities they play football in. Most nfl players are just playing ball somewhere but their home is elsewhere. There's just not the same feeling with pro ball.
