Are normal people freaking out? I feel like this is getting blown way out of proportion.

One of our large consulting engagements for one of the biggest banks in the US out of Chicago just went DEFCON 1. Full company work from home. Only critical personnel and those who don’t have technology must go in (to their corporate locations, not branches)

Monday 3/30: estimate of US COVID-19 deaths, even with mitigation measures: 200,000
Friday 4/3: updated projection of US deaths: 111,000
Monday 4/6: downgraded to 93,521
Tuesday 4/7: downgraded to 81,766
TODAY 4/8: downgraded to 60,000

So clearly this will not be even remotely Spanish Flu 1917-1919 (675,000 US deaths out of a population of only 100 million; equivalent to 2.2 million deaths in today's population).

Question: At what number of deaths would this be declared the 5 trillion dollar nothing burger?
