The question is totally lost here. The OP was simply asking why burn the redshirt for a few meaningless handoffs?
Was it an oversight? Part of a plan?
It just seems interesting that we decided to randomly burn it for a few meaningless snaps that did nothing to help him prepare for the future. Doesn’t mean it was a poor decision or a smart one. It’s just curious that it happened that way.

Just for clarification, his redshirt isn't burned. You don't have to be in your first year to redshirt.
