I was listening to JJ Redick's pod the other day.
On it he had Zion and Ja and they touched on their AAU team the SC Hornets based in Cola

quote:

“We were the role players,” Williamson said. “What people don’t know is, it’s a dude that goes to Ole Miss now, Devontae Shuler. In South Carolina, he was the guy. I remember I used to play with him. I’m playing upper age group. I’m watching him play like, ‘Man this dude’s just going coast to coast, finishing, pulling up transition three like he’s (Steph) Curry. I’m like, ‘I’m just a ninth grader, nobody knows who I am.'”

the state has talent, we need someone to get it!

Losing Shuler to Ole Miss sucked. I knew we were screwed when he transferred from Irmo to Oak Hill.

South Carolina is the doldrums of college basketball. We have to face this fact. Not just us, but Clemson too. Before our run in 2017, we hadn't won a tournament game since 1973 or even been in it since 2004. And it doesn't help that we border the state that loves college basketball more than just about anywhere.

One of the big leaders of the African American community in Columbia is Senator Daryl Jackson. His son is a leader in aau baskerball and has actively pushed players away from the Gamecocks. He has admitted such.

I hate to say this but when SC basketball whether it be men’s or women’s has been its best, it pulled players from up north.

Yes you have a few SC stars that played Ex. Aja Wilson. Alex English

But both Mcguire and Dawn had/have the relationships to pull the best the north has to offer, and that was the difference
