I think they are a rival to a segment of LSU's fanbase.

Did some of y'all already forget the 10-7 game just five years ago?

If that game didn't convince you that LSU and Ole Miss are still rivals, then nothing will.

I get that Bama is a much bigger game and one that we think about 24/7/365. Beating Ole Miss usually (2014 a very notable exception) means little but losing to them still stings in no small part because they are an old rival and one that we are supposed to be able to beat.

It would certainly help the rivalry if the game were played closer to Halloween as is traditional.

I agree they were a rival for a certain generation of LSU fans. I am 53 years old so I kind of got the tail end of the LSU Ole Miss Rival, my first game was the December 1970 match with Archie in Tiger Stadium. But for most of the 70's and till the 80's it seemed the Tulane game was more of the rival game, at least in SE LA where I grew up. All of my family were spread between New Orleans and Baton Rouge and Florida parishes so maybe that had something to do with it. Some of New Orleans relatives pulled for Tulane back then (a vocal minority of them btw).
