What a load of bullshite! Schedule Alabama's Sept. games at night and they'll put 100,000 asses in the seats.

I am very sorry that Alabama's politicians were stuck in the segregationist past and could not foresee a future when it would be very advantageous to play games at night.

Huey P. Long was a visionary. He got on the night game train long before the rest of the SEC.

Huey didn't have to deal with the clownshow at ESPN, but he did literally make a circus bend to his will and kept the elephants at bay.

The Tigers would return home for a game under the lights against SMU, but ticket sales were sluggish. As this was early in the night game experiment, [Athletic Director T.P. Heard] promised large payouts to opposing teams to play in Tiger Stadium at night and now risked losing a lot of money on the game. The culprit? The circus had come to town.

No worries, as Huey came to the rescue. He found an obscure law requiring cattle crossing state lines to be dipped and insisted to Barnum and Bailey that he planned to enforce that law, which meant dipping tigers and elephants. Or the circus could take Saturday night off and he would ignore the law. Barnum and Bailey cancelled the Saturday night circus, and the SMU game would nearly sell out.

I have no idea what dipping an elephant involves (flea bath? dance move?) but it sounds serious.

Here's to you, Huey:

I bet you'll pull a crowd
Gonna be a long night
It's gonna be all right
