It probably costs around $500 a month to run a small BBS board these days, a LOT less than it used to. Bandwidth is much cheaper.
Still, that's a lot of money if the site is not generating enough to cover expenses. I mean it was down for awhile and had to be moved to another server and bandwidth provider for lack of payment right?

I’d be willing to pay that just to read what everyone says
I just don’t wanna do anything after that
Nor have any experience running a message board

Is your peep Ace Dilcock?
Or that other guy who thought we were beating Clemson then disappeared?

Php BB is free but a bandwidth hog.
Then you have monthly server fees with packaged bandwidth. Anything over that and costs rise. Typically you have a backup running just in case and a busy board needs dedicated servers to prevent latency issues and slow loads.
I just looked and you could definitely find a host and launch a site these days for $500 a month.
Then you would need to do a deal with an ad server (google) and hope they don't interfere with your model.
Your goal should be transitioning to a premium content model and that requires content and shopping cart, etc. Do a deal with Fanatics for gear and goodies.
Find some willing moderators to do various shifts.
It's a lot tougher than it looks.
This site we're on right now for instance, this is a large endeavor.
GatorCountry is the largest independent sports website out there if I am not mistaken. I don't know if Ray Hines still owns that site or not but I think he launched his own servers and maintains them himself to keep costs under a couple of grand a month last I heard.
This site is probably the second largest when you combine all of the various boards. I've always wondered what their traffic numbers are like among their entire community here but I suspect it's in the 10-25k unique users a day realm and probably doing close to 300k ads served per day.
That's a lot when you look at current CPM rates so it may not be that high, I dunno.

You should start a forum or a podcast. Call it " As the Rooster Crows".

As someone who frequented both boards, what is the reason for the animosity between here and CT?

Sugar coating it as much as I can, a bunch of folks here had poor interactions with some of the mods over there. This place is a little more raw/honest than CT and the posting style here rubbed some of those folks the wrong way.
Several folks from here got banned over there.

Similar to what is going on now
When went 3-9 a few older posters/mods just quit
I for one ran my mouth about them and called them out. i then went on super a-hole/douchemode shite posting spree (not any different than i do here)
And I got banned for life

Ummmmmmmmm .... I don't think "frequented" means what you think it means.
You lurked here, right?
You frequented there, right?
Welcome to the board.

I don't see that tweet up on Hoskin's account. You sure that's real? Maybe he took it down?

Probably a better way to put it. I've lurked here for about a year or 2 and just recently made a profile. Lurked on CT since about 2015. I did post there every so often but not a bunch because I don't have too much to add to conversation as it relates to "information". Thanks for the cheers bud. I've always enjoyed reading your posts on this board.

Thx. What a dooshtoid, not giving some kind of heads-up. People might have been able to contact each other, or coordinate a movement to another forum.
