What does your new QB look like? I know you have a top RB, but what does it look like behind him?
I like your WR and TE. They should make some plays for you.

I expect your defense will be good as usual. Your offense last year was needing more oomph. Maybe the new QB can provide it.

We'll let you know once we know who won the job. Not sure yet if it will be Deuce Wallace or Riley Neal. Neal is a redshirt senior who transferred to VU after 3+ years at Ball State. Wallace is a redshirt junior who was suspended all last season for a violation of university policy. He got some garbage-time snaps in 2017 as Shurmur's backup, but that was it. Wallace is the better runner, Neal is the better passer (completed 60 percent of his passes at Ball State, throwing for 7393 yards, 46 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions against mostly MAC competition).

You must have missed that Vandy set a record in 2017 for most points per game allowed (43.25) in SEC play. I'm sure there is some "since 1960s" clarification. Even with only allowing 13 points in the first three games COMBINED, the team averaged 31.3 against for the season, which ranked 89th in the country. 2018 was much better, finishing the year 61st in points per game allowed with 26.6 points per game. They also "only" allowed 29.375 points per game against SEC opposition.

The problem will be replacing Joejuan Williams. I think the other losses are pretty replaceable in theory, and the DL should be much better. Though it is probably a unit in a similar place to UGA's defense last year. There are only 2 players on Vanderbilt's entire defensive depth chart (32 players listed) who will graduate. Only 1 other player really has any hope of leaving early for the draft with a monster year.

Sick of seeing dumb people putting Vanderbilt as the worst team in the SEC. They at worst should be Preseason power ranked at 11th ahead of Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. As we all saw last year, Vanderbilt is a superior program to all 3.

There is a path for Vanderbilt to get to another bowl

1. Win all 3 winnable NC Games
2. Win at Ole Miss and at Tennessee(yes these are both road games but Vanderbilt is superior to both)
3. Win vs Kentucky, South Carolina, or Purdue (honestly all 3 of these could be wins but they are all slightly better than Ole Miss or Tennessee imo)

If Missouri and KB flops that could be another possibility. But yes drawing LSU from the West sucks and Georgia to start off the season is brutal but hey who knows Vanderbilt upset UGA a few years ago I suppose.

Anyways obviously losing Shumer who I was a fan of hurts, but the possibilities are still here this season imo.
