Assault is basically bothering or threatening someone verbally and/or making them feel as though you can/will hurt them physically. (It should be noted that something as benign as being an intimidating presence - say you're tall and muscular and lean in near someone - can be charged as assault. It's a murky kind of charge based on the other person's feelings of being threatened). Battery is when you touch them. It's a pretty common thing to confuse, to the point where I rarely make a distinction in every day conversation because everyone thinks assault = physical contact and usually the two charges go together so being pedantic about it rarely matters.

Thompson was arrested and released from jail overnight after the altercation.

So, essentially, he threatened to slap the shite out of her and broke a gate, but no actual violence occurred. Not buying the "shoot up the school" threat until someone who actually was in his vicinity can corroborate it.


I mean, he shouldn't have done that, gotta learn to check that rage.

Give him some community service and a bill for the gate, give him extra sprints, maybe even sit him for a half, but anything past that is just silly

When that gate came crashing down it likely made a ton of noise (bang, bang, bang,) and someone got scared. That part has the feel of a drunken college kid on a Saturday night mixing up what he heard or thought he heard. If the police thought there was anything to it they'd have charged him with making terroristic threats. However, he'll still have to go in front of the student conduct board for it.

Atlanta has "spilt over" within 50 miles of 285. And effects the culture there. LOL! Georgia has lead the nation in off season and in season mayhem forever. You tell me where the "taint" is over the past 20 years. Hell even the school AD's get arrested driving drunk with a naked whore riding shotgun and her red panties pulled over his head. You know there is a problem otherwise you wouldn't keep responding to defend in a panic fashion.

If Thompson is kicked off the team - it won't be because of a DA charge that will be dropped. It will be because of his comments he made about shooting up the school.

There were actually 3 witnesses. It says the closest witness did visually ID him and heard him make both threats. The two witnesses behind the first witness couldn't see him because witness #1 was blocking their view. Witness #3 definitely heard the slap threat but can't confirm that shooting threat. Still not sure if witness #2 heard both or one or no threats based on the articles out there.
