Maybe an OT thread, but nobody knows me there. I am a much more high-profile personality here. (We really need that sarcasm font, BTW.)

So, where has something from your school shown up in a movie, song, etc., that most people wouldn’t realize without knowing the backstory?

Texas A&M Fish Drill Team did the opening thing in A Few Good Men because the Marines thought the movie put them in a bad light.

I was an undergrad when that came out.

We saw it on opening night at the theatre in Bryan, and the FDT marched down both aisles of the theater and performed part of their routine (from the movie) for the crowd.

Fun memory.

Some people here are slow on the uptake.

Yes, Bammers, we know there is a movie where a simpleton with no reason to be on a major college campus is able to get passed along simply because he can run with a football. Clearly a farcical tale that could never happen in Tuscaloosa today.

Now, who has one where the parallels or connections are less obvious?

tRant could save themselves a lot of heartache and disappointment if they just listened to and accepted the wisdom of Steely Dan.

Learn to work the saxophone
I play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whiskey all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

So aggy's "pop media" example is of their school impersonating something it's not.

Sounds right.

That's not why.

The DoD saw the script of the movie and refused to endorse it with actual assets.

"Big Fish" with Danny Devito ("Always Sunny"), Morgan Freeman (Everything) and Ewan McGregor (Obi Wan) is all I can come up with, lol.

Moonlight Feels Right lyrics

… 'Cause southern belles are hell at night
You say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
Class of seven-four, gold ring
The eastern moon looks ready for a wet kiss…

Bones from Star Trek and Julia Sugarbaker from Designing Women are Ole Miss grads.

And, of course, The Blind Side.

Films shot on USC's campus are way too numerous to list.

For UGA...

2015: A Walk in The Woods (starring Robert Redford, Nick Nolte, Emma Thompson)

2013: The Spectacular Now (starring Kyle Chandler--a UGA student, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Miles Teller)

2012: Trouble With the Curve (starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake)

2009: Not Since You (starring Desmond Harrington, Kathleen Robertson, Christian Kane)

2008: Somebodies (TV series -- starring Anthony K. Hyatt, Amber Chaney, Tyler Craig)

2007: Darius Goes West (starring Darius Weems, Andrew Carson, Daniel Epting)

2000: Road Trip (starring Breckin Meyer, Seann William Scott, Amy Smart)

1980-1981: Breaking Away (TV series -- starring Shaun Cassidy, Barbara Barrie, Vincent Gardenia)

Ryan Seacrest, Monte Markham, Kyle Chandler, Trisha Yearwood, R.E.M., Kim Basinger, Tituss Burgess, Phaedra Parks, Josh Holloway, Bill Anderson, Deborah Norville, Alton Brown, Wayne Knight are a few of many actors, actresses, entertainers here in the entertainment industry who have attended and/or graduated from the University of Georgia.

Hollywood has lots of UGA grads/alumni in the industry here, a few in the executive ranks. With Atlanta now the "Hollywood of the East" and having more films shot there than even in Los Angeles, with so many studios and sound stages built there, the ranks of UGA alumni in the entertainment industry will surely grow even much more.
